Laser Printers?
Heya,
Since I print a lot I'm planning on buying a Laser Printer... I have ZERO knowledge regarding them (other than you need a toner and I know how to work the toner and such).... How long does the Toner last? Also any suggestions on any semi-decent and cheap one? Yeah I dun have much spare money at the moment... hmmm I'm Canadian so Futureshop, Best Buy and The Source in Windsor, Ontario are accessible to me But I can also cross the border to the US, DEARBORN in MI.... so any store in that city is okay with me.... Hope someone can help me out here... and thanks ^^ |
Laser printers are only worth it if you plan on printing black and white documents. Colour can be done in the more expensive machines, but they don't approach the quality of some of the HP or Canon Photo series printers (unless you go commercial).
Generally, the average toner cartridge costs $80-100, and yields about 2,500 pages at 5% coverage. |
Yeah I don't want any color... just black and white (no point printing out XXX pages for lectures)
Any recommendations for okay printers? I mean there's like a huge range difference even for those that are just black and white...... not sure what to think of that |
Depending on how much you are wanting to spend, you can get an inexpensive HP Laserjet 1018 for like $130 american. I don't have any personal experience with this specific model printer, but I do have experience with the similarly sized Laserjet 1022 ($200), and it is pretty decent.
The 1018 uses a $70 american toner cartridge that yields 2,000 pages at standard coverage (I assume they use 5% as their standard). |
Well all I plan on doing is printing out pages and pages of lectures one after the other... has very few pictures and I dun really care about those
It's weird 'cause there are laser printers that are for $99 (12 HRM???) and others for $300+ Black and white is fine... in a sense I want to be economical since the printer I currently have is HP and it prints in color + B/W Any good stores to recommend in the US? __________________________________________- EDITING: Can someone give me their opinions on the following: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0061585&catid= and http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0080454&catid= |
Go with HP Laserjets...
The thing with all printers is... check the price of the ink/toner. The cost of the printer is small compared to the lifetime cost of the replaceables. The manufacturers will usually give you the lowdown on how many pages a cartridge can take, at 5% coverage. |
