Program that lets me Split my bandwidth?

My cousin just arrived with her laptop, and i was wondering if there was any program, that would let me assign certain internet speeds, since I'm always downloading something, and my cousin is always browsing sites like friendster (which kills my bandwidth)

So any program that lets me split the internet speed or what?

Yeah, it's called a router.

But I suppose some would more consider that hardware than software.

I love how i forgot the password on my router. oh well time to check the internets

Do routers nowadays actually allow you to set up/down rates for individual computers? I don't remember seeing that on any of the ones I had gotten for my home network back in the dark ages. :(

Get yourself some quality router with QoS (quality of service).

NetLimiter works for me to cap bandwidth usage...

Little Shithead Sep 22, 2007 11:13 AM

Yeah, but that's for the computer you're currently on.

That does no good if you want to limit the bandwidth for another computer without forcing someone to install a program.

True, but I don't see why he can't ask his cousin to do so. Better than buying a brand new router I think.
