Rez HD (Working Title)

Gamespot page

For those of you who remember Rez on Dreamcast, here's a chance to see it again in massive HD glory, as Q Entertainment has announced that a high-def version will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade sometime next year.

For those of you who were able to enjoy this game the first time around without having to drop acid: DISCUSS.

Rez is basically one of the greatest games ever made, so if this doesn't find its way to every single 360 HDD in existance.. well, people will be missing out.

I still cherish my PS2 version to bits, but an HD version for the people who insist, that's as good a choice as any.

It was on PS2? I only have a European version that I burned off an ISO years ago. I have a PAL Dreamcast that I USED to play it on, but that shit broke down a LONG time ago so now I got something to hunt down on eBay~

There's not much input to be had past this that isn't gushing. This is good news, understatement, and hopefully people can appreciate the game and not feel suckered by the hype.

I only discovered it on PS2. I don't know for sure if it's as good though, because I've never played the DC version, so I have no basis for comparison.

The DC version is said to have superior visuals to the PS2 version, though the PS2 version runs at 60 hertz as opposed to the DC's 50.

The PS2 pad is more suitable for the game, but many claim the graphics look better. In such an abstract game world, I imagine the lack of anti-alias isn't quite as glaring as in something like DOA2. And not that many have a DC RGB cable anyway. It's a beautiful game for me even in PS2 form.

If you're lucky enough to own the DC version, good for you. The PS2 version is just as good, luckily enough <3 Then there's the trance-vibrator to deal with, but I don't own one :(

Rotorblade Sep 19, 2007 01:17 PM

Most people say the visuals in the PS2 version aren't as smooth or trippy (expounded on in the above post), but we get the graphics in High Resolution now... so I guess that's a moot point. Again, I'm just wondering if it is the whole game or if they're going to pull that Lumines Live bullshit. I'll buy it anyway, but I'll be really mad and stuff if they do.

Still buying it.

I'm also a huge fan of the Dreamcast original. Never got the chance to play the PS2 version but will try it some day. Do I have to feel guilty for not being interested in a HD version of Rez, though? It's really odd because I'd probably love the high res visuals to death but I have absolutely no urge whatsoever to buy this. Well, unless they add something absolutely amazing and uniquely spectacular besides new visuals.

And this is coming from someone who has excellent taste in Rez. Seriously.

Unless you're a diehard fan, you've played it before. I wouldn't blame you, because I mean... you are entitled to sit here and say "Been there, done that." I'm excited for the high resolution, really. The game was all about the visual experience and that is being enhanced here. As a "no shit moment", that really is the pull for this release. But no, I wouldn't say you're crazy Rock, just level headed.

The only truly disappointing side of this is that it won't come with the Trance Vibrator.

Oh, I'm not excited in the "Wow, I get to play it in HD!" kind of way. Partly because I'm still not that impressed by HD gaming in general, and what with owning and regularly playing my regular Rez.

I'm thrilled they are bringing these kinds of cult classics to Live, and hoping more people get to experience and love them this way. I'd be just as excited if they announced a large reprint of the game for PS2, for instance.

I'll definitely get this as I enjoyed playing it on the PS2. However, there seems to be little replay value to it. Go through several stages and those were pretty easy to get through. Other than that, is there any reason to back to it gameplay wise?

Regarding Rez on Dreamcast versus PlayStation 2, PlayStation 2 wins out as I have both versions at home. Dreamcast has a somewhat cleaner look if one were to do a screenshot comparison, but it's running at 30 FPS. The PlayStation 2 version runs at 60 FPS, and so it handles a lot smoother and ends up looking more impressive in person. The Dreamcast version thumps out some stronger bass for whatever reason, while the PlayStation 2 version seems to have an extra audio sample here and there in some stages for the music.

Looking forward to hearing Mindkiller in 5.1, that much is certain.
