VGMdb (Formerly Gamingforce Audio) Beta Launch
I know it's been a long time, but we're pleased to finally announce that the old Gamingforce Audio VGM database project has re-emerged under the new name VGMdb. We return with most of the old database intact, and after major improvements to the code, but also after a period of refocusing during which we expanded the team to include many influential people from outside of the GFF community. You can read a bit more about the purpose of the site on the About Us page. Just a quick summary -- VGMdb is a database site established with the goal of allowing the community to work together, pooling our knowledge with the hopes of cataloging every game music album in existance.
The new site can be found here: VGMdb beta One thing that has changed from before is that you must register a username on the site (i.e. sign up on the forums) in order to submit information. Everything that is submitted is immediately viewable, but also enters a moderation queue, where staff can approve or reject it. Important: If your name is on this list, your account is already created, and you need to contact me to get your password. Quote:

Don't mean to complain in the first post, but this logo ist hopefully just a placeholder:

Is it that bad? I kind of like it.
I think that once we're more established, we can think about doing a full redesign, maybe even ditching the color scheme, which came from here. |
I don't think it's terrible or anything. Pretty simple design, but considering what some other sites in this field have going on, that's not necessarily a bad thing at all.

Wow...I thought I was sending a pm to SS about my account, but I obviously screwed up. Anyways, congratulations on the launch!

It is so good to see this extraordinary resource back up and running. I hope that it will remain online and continue to grow for many years. I am not a contributor, and nor does it seem entirely likely that I ever will be, but speaking as a user, I am delighted that this site is back up. It's great to have a site like this to refer to, and as more information is added to the site, it will become more and more useful.

I already have a set-up account? Propped.
But seriously, it's great to see this huge project come to the light again. Go, VGMdb! Down with GMR~! (<3 GMR) As for the logo, I think it's fine. There isn't anything wrong with it, per se, so until something better comes along I think it's fine. |

Also, was there a particular reason to set up a separate forum for VGMdb and not share it with GFF? |
I'll try my hand at a logo sometime soon. A picture logo, that is, rather than a purely text one.
|
Make sure foxkeh is in it.

If we'd stuck with the name Gamingforce Audio, and remained attached to these forums, we'd forever be associated with some of the negative connotations that Gamingforce has never managed to shake, including its image as a hive for mass-piracy. That said, you'll notice that much of the staff comes from here, so we're still quite related. |
That kind of makes sense, I was wondering why the two sites weren't integrated at all. In any case, it looks great, and hopefully it'll turn out to be a success!
Btw, isn't doujin spelt...doujin? And not dojin? |

Romanization is really a question of phonetics, and thus vary from a language to another. By that, I mean that French-speaking people and English-speaking people won't write Japanese words the same way when they use the western alphabet, for example. |

Technically, I think we should settle on Doujin, since it uses the romanization that we've been favoring for the album submission information.
|
I like doujin better as well, eventhough I'm French and should say dojin.
Wow, that was a lot of posts about spelling 同人. :tpg: |
Another way is to spell it "dōjin". The macron marker over the 'o' indicates a long vowel, and doesn't introduce a potential mispronunciation like "doujin". It's an extended vowel, not a dipthong, and those without knowledge of Japanese might not realise this.

The earphone guy is definitely going in the design =o

Not sure if my input here is at all valued, but after realising that I'm shit at header banners, I came up with this:

Do keep the ideas coming. Since I'm in China and I've seen some splendid calligraphy art I'm thinking of a stylized 樂 (two different readings: 'le' meaning enjoyment or happiness, and 'yue' meaning music). LET'S ENJOY MUSIC
http://www.bigblah.net/upload/yue.png Some character samples I dug up. First row is traditional, second row is simplified. I'll see how it turns out later; can't operate photoshop on this laptop ;_; |
niki comes up with a great design (suprisesuprise). Love the 8-bit font, and the headphone guy <3
|
niki's design for the win. Seriously, that's so awesome. :tpg:
I like Krelian's symbol, too. Yeah. There's my two cents. Take them and buy yourself somethin' nice (like a good banner lolol) |
