Lost my administrator account. How do I retrieve it?
Due to an exciting Windows fuckup, I lost my admin account when I tried to create another one. It's been eliminated from the login screen, but as you can see from this screenshot, the folder (and all its data) still remains:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/eea76/admin.gif I'd really like to be able to get my old account and settings back. Is it possible? Update: A foray into Safe Mode allows me to login to my original account (which is an administrator), but it still won't let me delete or demote the other one. |
The "Administrator" account is never designed to be used, and reclaiming it is a difficult goal if even possible. Just create a new account and copy all the profile information over.

I went into Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Local Users, and saw all the accounts. It gave me a strong warning against deleting it, but when I restarted after doing so, the default Administrator account returned, and so did all my settings. I don't understand what caused this to begin with, but it seems everything's back in order.
