Drawn to Life

Considering the game is released today I might aswell make a thread on it.

For those who dont know what the game is then let me ask you, do you remember Magic Pengel: The Quest for Color and Graffiti Kingdom? Well if you dont know, those games had a feature where you could create your own character from scratch. Not like the other games where you had fixed shit like faces and stuff to make your own character but THESE GAMES LET YOU MADE A CHARACTER ON YOUR OWN.

Dont believe me, go to youtube and look em up.

But yes like those two games you can create your own character, platforms, ANYTHING, but the flaw is that you have a fixed border. So to those who want to make oh...BOWSER or someone you`ll have to choose someone else, but you cant blame the company for it, after all it IS a DS game and not a PS2 game. But if you`re fine with it then ok, but just remember that.

The game should be out today or tommorrow and will cost $29.99. So yeah thats it.

I'm waiting to read a few reviews on this one before I think about picking it up. I'm not the slightest bit artistic, but if there's a good story and innovative gameplay, this one would be worth looking into.

trackjacket Sep 10, 2007 12:33 PM

I think it's an interesting concept, and the art style is fairly nice. However, like nuttyturnip, I have no artistic skills. I'm sure some people will make awesome levels/characters for this title, though.

If you`re good with pixel art (or sprite art to be exact) then you shouldnt have a problem (you can use the D-Pad instead of the stylus).

I would have been interested in Pengel or Graffiti Kingdom, but I've read complaints of how the effort invested into drawing something nice is wasted when something simply drawn would be equally effective due to the way the drawing system works. If they've fixed that issue, then I would definitely check this out, since I would like for an elaborate humanoid to be definitely as effective as it looks, and not on par with a couple of lines and dots.

The game looks interesting, but I'm waiting for a couple of reviews also. I would've figured that this game fell along the lines of Grafitti Kingdom, but that game got average ratings. If the ratings blow me away, then I might just denote a purchase... I'm almost done with Trials and Tribulations anyway, so I need someone else very soon. <_<

True, but the company that made the games didnt make this one. So it`ll be different from how you described it.

My sister is excited about this game, so I can just play her copy whenever she gets it. Personally though, I don't expect it to be that great, especially not 'purchase on the day of release' great.

And like half the people in this thread, I also have no drawaing ability whatsoever, so that would probably be another hamper to me fully enjoying this title. I know it has preset drawings already in the game, but that just seems kinda stupid to me, ruining the whole point of the game.

This is seriously pretty much my most anticipated game on the DS since McDonalds served McBronto Burgers. I've been really interested in it ever it was first announced and the developer was having trouble getting anyone to publish it, and that was about a year and a half ago. ;_;

Dunno if the rest of the planet's getting this bonus shit too, but

So, so awesome.

Muzza Sep 11, 2007 04:18 AM

Say whaaat?! I'll definitely be looking into that. o.0"

I can't believe this game's out already (in the US). I was really interested in it and forgot about it up 'till now. This game looks really awesome and light-hearted, similar to Super Princess Peach but much more awesomer. The whole interface looks so awesome.

Two awesomes and one awesome variation...yup, if that doesn't indicate that I'm excited about this game, then I don't know what does!

Azingno Sep 15, 2007 09:58 PM

Hey the game`s out now! Go get it! >8U

I actulally got it Thursday, its really good but there`s some things you wont like. There`s the...

Inconcievable hits - You try to jump on a penguin while it attacks, you`ll get hit for some reason.

Fixed Drawings - Some levels you color in an object instead of making it. This kills the opportunity to make a penis submarine or a Pirate ship. I wanted to make the ship I made in KH1.

Complicated designing - This depends, if you make someone who`s skinny or something, expect him to have huge shoulders. However if you`re REALLY good at artwork, you can get around this.

All in all its a good game. So far I made the pissed off sun from Mario 3 and now I need to find more people.

Good story? Innovative gameplay? You're looking at the wrong game here folks.
If you love to draw, you'll have a fun time, but if not, stay away.

That`s why they have the built in characters. Plus that you can just be lazy and fill in most of the crap.

Torte Sep 17, 2007 06:56 AM

Well, jumping on bland red blocks and attacking with a squiggly line isn't much fun, is it now? Bosses are nice, but excruciatingly drawn-out levels aren't.

You dont HAVE to draw the gun. You can leave it blank, just like everything else but if you`re going to say the game sucks due to the excessive drawing parts then why are you even playing it in the first place?

Yes it does get a bit annoying doing some drawings, but that`s the point! Plus that how often do we get a game that allows us to make anything we wish?

Torte Sep 18, 2007 03:01 AM

Whoa boy! My initial post was aimed at the fella who asked if this game was deeper than drawing, which it isn't - don't kid yourself. To each his own, of course, so don't start a fuss about nothing. I didn't say it sucks. Although the 'point' of the game being to 'annoy' doesn't sound that enticing...

If you like this that much, go check out the various RPG Makers; you'll die and go to heaven once you see the stuff you can do there.

Lycanthrope Sep 19, 2007 03:43 PM

I'm considering getting it. I, too, will wait for a few reviews, of course, but designing your own character seems like fun.

I'm concerned that with my luck and ability, I will find some way to screw up or whatnot, but the concept is intriguing.

Infernal Monkey Sep 20, 2007 05:17 AM

Naturally my .. half a megapixel or whatever it is camera doesn't do a very good job, but! EDIT: I NEVER KNEW ABOUT THIS CLOSE-UP FINE DETAIL OPTION ON MY CAMERA. :(

Seeing Captain Falcon run and jump around makes me feel like a kid in a Captain Falcon store. I'm only up to the second level, but so far I've designed the following

Floating platform #1 - Pac-Man ghost
Floating platform #2 - Mario 3 Angry Sun
Spring - Jelly Turtle
Weapon - Earthworm Jim's gun

This game is amazing. :tpg:

map car man words telling me to do things Sep 20, 2007 05:28 AM

If only we could import photos, then we could have IWATA TIME as a boss~

Infernal Monkey Sep 20, 2007 05:34 AM

Haha, then the game would be impossible to beat! =o Everytime you'd attack him he'd just laugh and say "NO" which would cause damage (N's are very pointy!)

Haha, it just prompted me to draw a flower at the top of a vine and its leaves.
