Oversalt a Burger, Get Arrested

The Associated Press: Oversalted Burger Leads to Charges

Oversalted Burger Leads to Charges

UNION CITY, Ga. (AP) — A McDonald's employee spent a night in jail and is facing criminal charges because a police officer's burger was too salty, so salty that he says it made him sick.

Kendra Bull was arrested Friday, charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and freed on $1,000 bail.

Bull, 20, said she accidentally spilled salt on hamburger meat and told her supervisor and a co-worker, who "tried to thump the salt off."

On her break, she ate a burger made with the salty meat. "It didn't make me sick," Bull told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

But then Police Officer Wendell Adams got a burger made with the oversalted meat, and he returned a short time later and told the manager it made him sick.

Bull admitted spilling salt on the meat, and Adams took her outside and questioned her, she said.

"If it was too salty, why did (Adams) not take one bite and throw it away?" said Bull, who has worked at the restaurant for five months. She said she didn't know a police officer got one of the salty burgers because she couldn't see the drive-through window from her work area.

Police said samples of the burger were sent to the state crime lab for tests.

City public information officer George Louth said Bull was charged because she served the burger "without regards to the well-being of anyone who might consume it."
I guess Union City, GA doesn't care if McDonald's and their lawyers ends up owning the town.

Wait wait wait...she got arrested for a salty burger?
I say this cop was bored with giving speeding tickets and wanted something to spice up his afternoon with.

Radez Sep 9, 2007 09:49 PM

She passed it up the chain of command. Apparently her supervisor didn't find anything wrong with it, why didn't anything happen to him? On the other hand, the article's so brief and it's McDonald's, she really could be at fault.

Little Shithead Sep 9, 2007 09:55 PM

He got arrested for as-salt-ing that cop's burger.

That is SOOO right.

Having worked in the restaurant business for awhile, I can tell you guys that salt should be the least of anyone's fears. Things like this happen all the time.

If you want my opinion, its cops fault he went to mcdonalds. People get sick from eating McDonalds all the time. He acts as if he was in 5 star dining room.

Quoted for the truth. :D

Seriously, salt is the last thing a customer ever ask to remove from a burger. Hell they removed the lettuce more than the burger than the salt that comes along on it, or perhaps they don't even know that a burger even comes salted? :/

This is madness!

Seriously tho, what kind of a world do we live in where pimply teenagers are arrested for slacking off at work?

Leknaat Sep 10, 2007 01:52 AM

Ah, yes, the joys of McDonald's.....

I once worked there and had this drummed into me:

"If YOU wouldn't eat it, then don't serve it." I also had THIS drummed into me:

"Only managers can determine if food should be thrown out."

So, who is at fault?

The manager. Once salt is added to the meat, it is grabbed by the grease in the patty. There's no "thumping" the salt off the burger itself. That meat should NEVER have been served, and the employee should never have gotten into trouble.

This isn't McDonald's logic. This is common sense.

The test were halted, however, when the evidence turned up missing.

Mayor McCheese held a press conference to state that all resources were being deployed to find the main suspect in the disappearing evidence, The Hamburglar.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I bet someone ate the evidence. Some forensics dude is gonna come out and be all, "Hey, I'm sorry. I was hungry."

An employee follows standard protocol in regards to food and the policeman jails her for it?

I'm speechless about the policeman's inanity. God forbid.

Well it is a hamburger, not a shovel, an icepick or a handgun. Why shouldn't it be eaten? Furthermore, how exactly would the crimelab determine that the burger was in fact, illegal?

Hell, I like salt on my burger. This story has made me hungry. (Maybe the cop will stick with donuts next time. ) I will be going to McDonalds tomorrow to ask for a burger...with extra salt of course.

Hachifusa Sep 10, 2007 03:46 AM

Forget about the ridiculousness of the story. What I'm wondering is whether or not that girl will sue the city, the city's police department, and the lone officer for single-handed abuse of power.

If cops are allowed to arrest you because they didn't like the product they were served, we're all fucked.

Bigblah Sep 10, 2007 03:52 AM

In the future you will have to sign a waiver every time you order from McDonald's.

For the city, it is even worse than that. Because she was working and because she was doing her job, McDonald's will almost definitely throw their lawyers on her case.

And McDonald's doesn't fuck around.

Which needs to be processed to make sure everything's in the clear. You'll get your burger in six to eight weeks.

BIGWORM Sep 10, 2007 05:02 AM

I would be seeing a lot of people in court, come that day.

Good job I never worked at McDonalds, nothing would get served.

Maico Sep 10, 2007 07:07 AM

Those burger punks!

YouTube Video

First you've got a cop arresting a guy for not showing his ID even though he did nothing wrong, now you got a cop arresting a girl for spilling salt on a burger, what is this country coming to?

THE CORNERSTONE OF ANY NUTRITIOUS-- oh.

I'm really not surprised by stupid shit news like this. So, I just want to get this straight... he wasn't at all upset by the long term health problems he'd face from eating at McDonald's, which I'm sure he isn't too picky about... it was the salty burger he probably wanted to eat from start to finish in spite of probably telling himself it tasted funny.

When you're dumb, you're dumb, right? Again, I just want to be clear about that.

There have always been asshole beat cops. If anything you should be more worried about no-knock warrants, and "dynamic entry tactics."

nuttyturnip Sep 10, 2007 02:19 PM

Seriously though, who wouldn't arrest this woman? With a face like that, she's guilty of something.
