Grey bearded man looks old and frail. Black bearded man looks young and full of vitality. A leader who appears old and frail doesn't instill the kind of confidence that a leader who appears young and full of life does.

This is called propaganda. He did this before in a video when he offered to stop his battle if the US and its allies withdrew from all Arab lands and left Israel to fend for itself. He knows there is no way this will ever happen, but it makes those that support him feel warm and tingly none the less.
