Speed Racer (2008)

Quote:

From writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, the creators of the groundbreaking “The Matrix” trilogy, and producer Joel Silver comes the live-action, high-octane family adventure “Speed Racer.”
Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized-the legendary Rex Racer-whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company's maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret-some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won't drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family's business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival-the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)-to win the race that had taken his brother's life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.
Prepare for car-fu. May 9th 2008. :(

Stop at 1:00 .......WTF???? Is that Dante?

El Ray Fernando Dec 7, 2007 12:43 PM

LoL your right he'd look awesome in DMC live action.

Looks like candidate for worst movie of 2008 and its still only 2007.... oh well butcher another one of my childhood shows.

Gechmir Dec 7, 2007 12:43 PM

Paulie Litt

lol wtf Spritle

Guru Dec 7, 2007 12:57 PM

I think it looks cool... seriously like bringing an Anime to life in live action, without adapting everything to be "realistic." Seriously, Speed Racer was never realistic.

And, I mean, it's the Wachowskis. It's not like it's some Uwe Boll crap.

Krelian Dec 7, 2007 03:03 PM

Matthew J Fox as Racer X seems pretty perfect. His head is the exact shape! =D

Karasu Dec 7, 2007 03:36 PM

I must say that trailer looks cool. However, the tracks look like they could be in Wipeout, and not exactly Speed Racer, did the show ever have tracks like that?

Gechmir Dec 7, 2007 05:10 PM

I feel like dissing the post just because you think it looks cool :( HOW?

Matt Dec 7, 2007 06:30 PM

To be honest, it doesn't look that bad...And did you see how Racer X and the Son of Sparta looked? Awesome.

Speed himself looks like a dumb shit, but I kind of expected Speed to look as retarded as he did in the anime. It's probably a stipulation in the contract to make the movie: "Make Speed look like a dumb cockface, like he does in cartoon! HAHA! HA! HAHAHA!"

The car flipping through the air in slo-mo made me laugh. It's so, gee--what's the term? Mona Lisa Overdrive. har har :tpg:

When they first showed the real-life version of the Mach 5, I thought that the movie was going to be grounded in reality. Now, the trailer has made me realize that Speed Racer is representative of an ugly and stupid racing game on the Wii.

Musharraf Dec 7, 2007 08:18 PM

I must say that this trailer is nothing more than a tribute to the current low-level metrosexual fashion (faster! harder! pinker!) hype

I mean - wow - look at the colors, and there, there's a car flying around --> :?:

Be very afraid.

I really wish they keep more of the original music style, more cheesy the better, that's how it be authentic. :<

I think he was talking about the racetracks, not the audio tracks. :p

480p trailer

1080p Trailer

Better quality ones :forscience:

Just watched the trailer... and I have to say... I have NO IDEA what the hell was going on in there. Kinda reminds me of the Rollerball remake. :|

Actually it reminded me of a cross between a shitty PS1 racer and some bright as fuck Hot Wheels track.

this looks like absolute dog shit.

am i watching a wii port of f-zero.

DJDoeDoe Mar 12, 2008 09:54 PM

Looks horrendous. Definitely not going to see it. It's rated G too. I suppose it's because its going to be a kiddie film. But it looks like a bad one at that.

Tagonist Mar 13, 2008 04:57 AM

Ultrahighgloss comicbook movie with fantasy cars.

Looks fantastic for 90 minutes of shallow "oh look whooshwroomkaboom" fun.
If you want anything else / more I don't think you'll be in luck here...

Childhood memories are way overrated anyway...

Mithrandir Mar 14, 2008 09:45 AM

Yeah it defintely looks like a bad "Cat in the Hat" movie....oh wait, It WAS bad.

I will give it a chance and go see it, but I do hope they have a great story to back the whole visual thing.

Yeah, I had to watch it twice... and I still really didn't know what was happening...

Leknaat Mar 15, 2008 05:17 AM

Where's the robot pigeon? I need it to fly straight into my eye.....

OmagnusPrime Mar 15, 2008 06:51 AM

From the trailers I've seen so far, I'm kind of liking the look of this film. The style is definitely something different and I can see that it won't sit with some people, but I like it. I've also really enjoyed the music that's been used in each trailer. Certainly one I'll be keeping an eye out for.
