Searching WITHIN word documents...
Aloha,
So I have stupid brothers who put all their password/usernames in a .doc file..... Along with that..... they FORGOT the name of the .doc file (go figure) and they BLAME ME for supposedly "deleting it" (but they just forgot k) So I'm looking for a program that can search within word files since I think they may remember a fragment of their username or something... Any ideas? Thanks |
Doesn't Windows search have an option to search for words within a document?

Windows XP does include a content based search, but its made infinitely more useful if you make sure the file extension filter is turned off.
Open up regedit and navigate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/ContentIndex. Find the key FilterFilesWithUnkownExtensions and make sure it is set to 1. Restart the Content Indexing Service and you will be able to search for text content in any file. |
