remove Right Click Format in XP?
Hey guys I have Windows XP and several partitions and all the drives (except for C and the DVD drive) have a Format entry on the right click context menu. Since I share my pc with kids they might accidentally format the drives with all my data. How can I remove that option on the right click context menu?

I tried searching, "delete format context on drive xp" in google and didnt see this lol! :D
But it doesnt work. I deleted the entry on regedit as instructed, rebooted the pc but its still there. |
Hmmm, well then, pare, play around at:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/context_folders.htm http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1164646,00.asp Note: I am not responsible for anything you may do to your computer! Another possible route: Start->Run->gpedit.msc->User Configuration->Administrative Templates Remove Windows Explorer's default context menu (set to enable) (play around here, there are thousands of settings you can set) And yet another possibility is to set the children's accounts in XP to something other than Administrators (say, Power Users or Users) and deny full control on the drive via Sharing and Security. |
crap Im scared they look so complicated now I might lose my data.
Thank you, I think the last suggestion would be easiest, make a limited account. |
