Household chores you dislike

What are they? Maybe you even have chores you prefer doing instead?

I typically don't like cleaning the bathroom since it takes me a long time. A close second would be taking out trash since the complex I live in at the moment has a dumpster that's difficult to get to.

Muzza Aug 23, 2007 02:03 AM

Hmm, well I don't do a huge amount of chores, but I guess I really dislike doing the vacuuming. It can be really tedious work, but thankfully I can listen to my mp3 player while doing it. Taking garbage out isn't that troublesome in my house.

Actually, something worse than vacuuming: washing and wiping the dishes. Such a burdensome task. :(

Yamigarasu Aug 23, 2007 03:59 AM

I loathe doing anything I have to bend over long periods of time, my height is aprox 6,2" and almost everything in my house is made for people around 5,8" so things like washing the dishes really hurt my back.

Infernal Monkey Aug 23, 2007 04:44 AM

I don't like making the bed, it's such a useless effort. I have to bend over and reach for the other side to yank that up, wow that's pretty sexy actually I'm going to go make the bed. Hanging the washing out on the line is pretty annoying too, the wind blows the washing line around and around and I'll end up with wet clothes hitting me in the face. Then I'll grab it and spin it around really fast, THAT'LL LEARN 'YA.

OmagnusPrime Aug 23, 2007 07:44 AM

Cleaning the bathroom is definitely a pain in the arse. I can't say I'm a big fan of chores in general, but I'll do them (they needs to be done after all), but bathroom cleaning would certainly be my least favourite.

janus zeal Aug 23, 2007 02:07 PM

I don't have a problem with most chores, but washing the dishes bugs me, just because I don't like to have prune fingers.
Anyone notice that paper feels really annoying after you wash your hands? Or is that just me? :\

Angel of Light Aug 23, 2007 08:10 PM

I don't really mind doing household chores around the house. It keeps me busy and helps make the day go by a little bit faster, as well I'm kind of a neat freak, I can't feel comfortable in a dirty house.

I've learned from talking to other women that women really appreciate men who like to help around with the household chores. I do have my set chores that I choose to do, but me and fiance we divide our chores evenly.

My chores that are given to me are:
1.) Washing Dishes
2.) Doing Laundry
3.) Cleaning Kitty Litter
4.) Taking Out Trash

My mom even gave me a really great fridge magnet that says: Real Men Do Dishes

The only chore I don't like doing is when any of our animals vomit that is just one thing I can't stand so I get my fiance to do it, since all of the animals are hers.

The primary chore I cannot stand is dishes... I'll do anything else but that.

As a kid my mom would make me to the dishes while she brought in the wood, I asked if we could exchage jobs and we did. I liked bringing the wood in much better.

Definitely taking out the trash right now, because I live in a third floor condo and the dumpster is already far enough from my unit. That and its almost always raining around here (Seattle area).

Otherwise, I've always hated doing dishes. Dishpan hands is one of the worst feelings.

Leknaat Sep 4, 2007 02:31 AM

All of them.

No, seriously--I hate all of them.

But, I have two I really hate doing--laundry because there are 3 washers and 3 dryers for over 20 apartments, so you either have to do laundry earlier in the morning, late at night, or somewhere else....

And I hate taking the trash out because it's an obstacle course where the dumpster is. The trash truck has destroyed the asphalt in front of it, and the owners of this apartment complex can't get them to fix it.

I don't know any teenager that doesn't hate every last chore, quite frankly. Although I have come to enjoy doing dishes in some sense, more so then some of the other chore. Since I am practically the primary person doing dishes in the house I have start to developed a pretty good system of working it. If its a chore that I am not particularly familiar, or if I don't have the right tool, I generally don't really like getting into it. Although like finishes a really good rendering of a drawing, it feels like you really accomplished something when the crack of your bathroom tiles is totally clean... of course I wasn't the one that finally bleached them this time. <.<;;

I thought it might be an interesting topic to talk about a house hold chore that people do enjoy. I think we have had that discussion before. Although doesn't people hates chore anyway?

RainMan Sep 5, 2007 05:15 PM

I hate all of them equally...well let me take that back. I used to hate cleaning toilets with a passion but its actually kind of fun to listen to music and put a bit of elbow grease into it. Not bad! Everything else is for the b'oids!

Bernard Black Sep 5, 2007 05:44 PM

I don't mind any of my household chores. If I had to clean up after people I didn't know, that would bother me. I guess I just like things to be tidy. I'm sitting here at the desk thinking about how much this hallway needs cleaning anyways.

Summonmaster Sep 5, 2007 07:56 PM

I hardly do any chores, shamefully. However, from the few that I partake in periodically, I dislike taking the recycling bin full of plastic and glass, as well as the recycling bag full of newspapers downstairs since I live in an apartment. Stairs or elevator, it's still 5 stories down and it either makes a very loud commotion if I dump it in all at once, or takes a while if I take out everything one by one.

Chaotic Sep 6, 2007 02:18 PM

Mostly washing the dishes and taking out the trash.

Taking out the trash is a bitch since I always hear my dad complain about how full it is, but he never wants to do it himself, so he yells at either me or my brother to throw it out. He does it himself a good majority of the time, but I hate it when he bitches about it, rather than doing something about it himself...

I also hate washing dishes when NONE of the dishes that are in there are mine. It bothers me that people want me to wash their crap when they're too lazy to do it. They probably complain when they have to do mine or whatever, but I like doing crap at my own pace. Eventually, it's gets done. Usually when it bothers me...

... Which is probably why I've been keeping all my crap clean in my dorm room. My other two roommates, don't really fix up their beds after they sleep in it. There's a pizza box that's in the living room area for about two days now. Seriously, the roommate who left it there has to take some fucking responsibility.

Celes Chere Sep 6, 2007 05:46 PM

I hate doing dishes. Hatehatehate. ;_; Vacuuming I don't mind, heck, dusting's okay too. But dishes suck. I always seem to get stuck with nasty grease that won't come off unless I use half a bottle of dish detergent.

I also dislike putting my hand in gross water to pull out the drain plug.

Identity Crisis Sep 6, 2007 06:01 PM

After holding a summer job of dishwashing, I've pretty much developed a neutrality over my disgust towards washing the dishes.

However, I can't stand dusting everything in my room. All of the sneezing and coughing from the dust is bothersome, and taking everything off of the shelves in order to wipe away every square inch of dust is irksome. Some of my belongings are pretty heavy!

Also, hating to clean the toilet in the bathroom is a given, especially when I have to share it with three other people in my dorm.

The Plane Is A Tiger Sep 7, 2007 02:18 AM

I only clean my shower every 2-3 months, because that's about the time it shows that it needs it. It's just so much trouble to scrub, especially since the bumpy floor tends to shred the sponges I use. I bought one of those auto-shower cleaner sprayers last month, but it still doesn't help much on the floor.

Second is doing dishes, but that has to be done once the sink gets full or I need a certain bowl. I'm not quite sure why I always procrastinate dishes so much, but I do.

projectg Sep 7, 2007 02:26 AM

probably vacuuming the house. man alive do I have to move a lot of crap just to do a really good job of it.

BIGWORM Sep 8, 2007 05:07 AM

Dishes. Just don't like to do them. I'll probably do anything else but wash dishes.

Or scrub the toilet. D=<

Conan-the-3rd Sep 9, 2007 05:59 AM

I can't iron for shit and I realy dislike it when people leave the dishwasher on overnight excpecting me to empty it in the morning.

Artix Sep 9, 2007 08:32 AM

Luckily we have a dishwasher so I don't have to do the dishes by hand. But still one of my chores are not unloading the dishwasher. I'm used to taking out the garbage as we don't live in an apartment and don't have to go down million flights of stairs to get to the dumpster. What irritates me is when I have to vaccum my room, but even more is when I have to vaccum somebody else's room. The most hated chore of mine is dusting my room. I have so many trophies, the computer, games, shelves that you have to pick up dust and whipe down. It takes so freaking long. Close second is either raking the leaves. Third is picking up sticks so the tractor doesn't send them flying.

PiccoloNamek Sep 9, 2007 08:38 AM

I absolutely hate changing/clearing the cat litter. It stinks, it's nasty, I don't even want to go near it. But I have to, so I went out and bought a pair of thick rubber gloves and a high quality filter mask, because man I don't want any of that dust in or on me.

Alice Sep 9, 2007 09:50 AM

I really, really hate taking out the trash. This is one of those chores I inherited when my husband moved out, and it has proven to be the one that I hate most of all. The reason it's so terrible is that my driveway is eeeextrraaaa loooong (and hilly) and by the time I get the trash up to the top of the driveway where the bin is, the bag has stretched out and the plastic handles have dug into my hands and my biceps are tired from trying to hold the bag out as far away from my body as possible.

I'm getting pissed off just thinking about it.

Misogynyst Gynecologist Sep 9, 2007 11:17 AM

Cat's litter box. Ironing. Making the bed. Mowing the lawn.

LeHah hates all these things!
