In the summer of 2004, Nile Rodgers and I decided that it would be a good idea to present the music of Halo 2 in two separate volumes. The first volume would contain all the music that was finished and mixed plus some "inspired by" music from music groups whose music was being used in the game.

Since the first soundtrack was assembled before the game actually shipped, the second volume would contain the rest of the music, some that I was still composing and producing, and would be arranged for maximum listening pleasure. The music in Halo 2 will play back a little differently each time someone plays the game but on the soundtrack, I have the opportunity to arrange the music in a way that will never change.

I decided to use a "suite" structure that also corresponds to the chapters within the game. In a sense by listening to this soundtrack you will hear the musical representation of the story of Halo 2. Enjoy!

Wow, I thought this project was actually abandoned. Good news then!

I'm not too much "pro-suite", but for adaptive music, I guess the result will be interesting.

Thanks for the info!

Just looking at the tracklisting I can tell this will be much better than Volume 1. For starters there are no liscensed tracks (unless you count the Steve Vai piece). Most of the suites are also of decent length, which should prove to be much more enjoyble (unless there is alot of ambient filler.)

Well, that's scary since H2 had no story.

Little Shithead Mar 20, 2006 07:29 PM

I suppose we should expect about 70 solid minutes of silence, then.

Kaleb.G Mar 20, 2006 07:47 PM

Nice. I'll have to pick this up to compliment my volume one. These albums come at attractive prices, so it's hard to say no.

RYU Mar 20, 2006 07:50 PM

My question is will be music used on Halo 2 TVspot on Vol.2?

nesquik Mar 21, 2006 01:37 AM

Oh yes it's a very good news.
When the first is going out I was a little disapointed by the music but the volune 1 will say there a volume 2 in preparation but in my mind the project was abandoned.
The tracklisting show there is only the music in the game as for Halo 1.
Now I'm waiting for the 25 April.

That's interesting, since there was no finale or epilogue in Halo 2.

Megalith Mar 21, 2006 02:13 AM

It's music from the real HALO 2, which was never released.

Why lie.

Little Shithead Mar 21, 2006 06:38 AM

It's obvious they'll "rerelease" Halo 2, and just slip in the supposed "real" Halo 2.

Am I right.

orion_mk3 Mar 21, 2006 07:16 AM

'bout bloody time. I see several things to like here:
-no licenced music
-no music by Incubus
-lack of "insipred by" tracks

Frankly, I don't care if every track is called "Sausage Mixer 1.0," as long as the music's good.

Finally we hear something... good news indeed! I was wondering when the second volume would be released.

(I gotta pick up volume one sometime... ._.)

Solis Mar 21, 2006 09:13 AM

Wow, so it's finally being released. A year and a half after volume 1...jeez, and here I thought it would turn into the Duke Nukem Forever of the game music album industry. But I'm still looking forward to it, since there's a lot of music from Halo 2 that wasn't on the first album that I'd like to hear.

Oh, and Halo 2 does have an ending AND an epilogue. It just ended on a (huge) cliffhanger.

Josiah Mar 22, 2006 02:52 AM

Indeed. I'm quite looking forward to it, as I heard several tracks in the game that I wished were on Volume 1.

There isn't by chance a place you could go online or something to pre-order it, is there?

sabbey Mar 22, 2006 04:19 AM

Try CDUniverse, they have it for $11.19, while Amazon has it for $15.98...

Darkelf Mar 23, 2006 05:57 PM

This is good news. Been wanting this ever since it was anounced in 2004. Took them some time to make it...

Now somewhere along the line I heard volume 2 would be the music performed by a live orchestra arranged in suites. Seems not to be the case then, well, except for the suites.

Only a month away... It'll be here quicker than one can say "Halo 2 has no ending and if it has one, it provides no satisfaction whatsoever".

Fixed.

I'm just finally glad they decided to make this more like the Halo 1 OST. The Halo 1 OST was great in my opinion because of the "suite" style of music. Hopefully this will not disappoint.
