Guess the City

Rules (shamelessly taken from the Guess the Anime Screenshot thread):
1. Only one active picture at a time.
2. If nobody can produce an correct answer after 24 hours or after 3 guesses, a hint of some kind must be posted
3. Whoever guesses the pic gets to post the next pic, unless they pass it off.
4. If you're guessing, wait for confirmation that you're right. If you know you have the pic dead to rights, you may post your own stumper right away.
5. No name only answers, the answers should have some substance to them, tell us what makes you so sure about it, like special buildings, bridges, lakes, highways, whatever.
6. Try not to be an idiot.

First city (pretty easy):

Correct answer given by Lord Styphon:
Spoiler:
Seattle, WA

I'm completely clueless (I approve of this thread, though!). Maybe you could at least give us a continent, to narrow the field?

Musharraf Aug 17, 2007 08:11 AM

Hint: Western USA
(maybe it wasn't as easy as I thought :()

TheKnightOfNee Aug 17, 2007 08:15 AM

I like the idea for this.

It's a city with a shoreline of some sort and a river, which narrows it down a little, but there's no recognizeable structures of any sort for me. I'll go with, uh, Montreal.

EDIT - oh, Western US, nevermind. Montreal was pretty far off.

Gechmir Aug 17, 2007 08:36 AM

San Francisco...? =O I see a bridge in the far right, and it reminds me of San Fran when I was there in the past. But this is just a shot in the dark. The secondary body of water in the back leaves me uneasy about the answer but it's all that comes to mind.

Edit -- Wait. That's no bridge  Ugh... What could this be...

Lord Styphon Aug 17, 2007 08:47 AM

After much careful thought, I have determined that this is Seattle, Washington.

Very good :) So it's your turn to post the next picture, if you want!

Dullenplain Aug 17, 2007 08:50 AM

It looks like Seattle from a weird angle. Not a view I would recognize because the Columbia Center is far off to the right and reflecting the sun rendering it almost unrecognizable.

EDIT: Damn, too slow.

Lord Styphon Aug 17, 2007 08:56 AM

The new city for guessing is this one:

I don't expect it to last for too long.

Correct answer given by Adol:
Spoiler:
Belgrade, Serbia

Grawl Aug 17, 2007 09:12 AM

I have no clue... Berlin?

Lord Styphon Aug 17, 2007 09:16 AM

I'm afraid you're wrong.

You're on the right continent, though.

Musharraf Aug 17, 2007 09:26 AM

I think I've seen a similar statue like this in Paris, France. So that river would be the Seine, and well, maybe the tower is part of "La Défense"? On the other hand, I think that I'm wrong because if it was correct, Face would probably have guessed it before :(

Zergrinch Aug 17, 2007 09:27 AM

London?

Franky Mikey Aug 17, 2007 12:00 PM

Warsaw maybe? The skyscraper looks a bit like the Financial Center.

Lord Styphon Aug 17, 2007 10:35 PM

None of those are correct. Face's guess is the closest.

knkwzrd Aug 17, 2007 10:45 PM

Prague?

I know this isn't my thread, but it hasn't even gotten past the first page yet and people are already ignoring the rules.

And no, it's not Prague.

Dullenplain Aug 17, 2007 10:51 PM

Could it be Vilnius, Lithuania?

I think I recognize the Europa Tower, even from the unfamous side of it.

:eagletear: Sorry about that, I admit I didn't read the whole opening post. The stonework reminded me of a film I saw that was shot in Prague.

The_Melomane Aug 17, 2007 11:04 PM

I don't know anything about anything, but the random statue just makes me think of Rome. So I figure I'll say Rome with every intent of getting it wrong. ;p

And you would succeed in this endeavor. As would those who proceeded you.

As a bonus for your success, I'll tell you that, while not Rome, the city in question was inside the Roman Empire.

I'm also noticing that all the cities people are guessing for this sample are capitals.

Adol Aug 18, 2007 12:09 AM

Belgrade!

(I guessed it based off of your hints, and the Danube river in the background, and the Usce Tower sealed it.)

Lord Styphon Aug 18, 2007 12:16 AM

Yes, it is Belgrade. Excellent work, Adol.

This means it's your turn if you want it.

nabhan Aug 18, 2007 12:17 AM

I'm not Styphon but I can second that you're right. After some careful scrutiny of maps of Europe and Ancient Rome I searched for cities along the Danube and clicked Belgrade. Lo and behold the picture posted above is on the page for Belgrade on Wikipedia.

EDIT: damnit. I figure out the city one minute after it's posted and I post this one minute after Styphon ;_;

Adol Aug 18, 2007 12:38 AM

Okay, here we go.
