Very quick question about playing playstation 2....

Well, I am wondering if it's possible to use the playstation 2 machine and connected to the LCD Widescreen or could I connect it through my graphic card as long as I got some device connected from graphic card to playstation cable and then to the screen?
I own a Geforce 8600 GTS

I don't own any tv at home, so I thought I want to use my computer screen to play PS 2.

Many cheers!

Only if your graphics card has input capabilites; which is very unlikely.
What is the specific brand and model of your card?

Also, what is the output plug for your PS2? S-Video?
If so, then you can probably find some s-video to vga adapters on places like amazon for a reasonable price.

Either buy a TV tuner card, or a svideo-vga adaptor.
I would get a TV tuner, but the adaptor would be cheapest. You could probably make one from parts around your house. (I've seen directions somewhere, I don't remember where.)

Packrat: I don't own any ps 2 yet, so I don't know... I have planned to buy 1, since I'm kinda bored lately...

Janus: Aaaah... right... shit I forgot the TV tuner card exist, but I'm wondering if the picture quality will be really smooth like when I'm connecting the ps 2 to the TV?

Thanks for the reply all, that is what I needed for help ;)

In my experience... it will not be particularly smooth or sharp if you go for one of the cheap tuner cards. I had one a way back, and it had the most horrible picture. It was a total waste of money, so be prepared to spend the extra for something decent.

How decent should I pay for it? Do you have any recommended tuner card? anything I should be aware which one I should buy and why?

I'm sorry, I really don't know which ones are good. I paid about $40 for a bottom-end Hauppauge card, and it sucked. I don't really know what the cost of a good one would be. Better yet, there used to be an adapter which would link your PS2 directly to a computer monitor, without involving your PC at all. I can't seem to find a supplier that still has those in stock, but I would search ebay for one if I were you. They seem to cost less than a good TV tuner card.

Alright, thank you very much for helping me out, I will try to look around at Ebay. Thank you very much ;)

Cheers!

I found out that my Graphic card do have S-video output, but the thing is I don't understand how I am going to configure to switch my monitor so I can play my playstation 2. I don't want to see anything Windows pictures or whatever it is, I just want to see clear PS 2 picture only, if you guys know what I mean.

I have connected every cable and stuff to my graphic card, so yeah... help would be appreciate if you guys know how I can fix it, cheers!:)

If the graphics card has output that doesn't help you. That means you'd be able to hook your computer up to a TV and watch whatever's on your monitor's screen on the TV.

You need an input to make what would go on a TV show up on your monitor.

I also got a TV tuner card a while back and while it didn't give the best of the best picture quality, it's not bad for watching on a 17" LCD monitor and makes it so I don't need to waste space with a TV in my bedroom in addition to my PC.

I tried hooking a PS2 on Portable Toshiba Qosmio G30, a week ago (nVidia 7600 Go + TV tuner card). Graphics looked very smooth, no quality loss at all. Still, the only problem i've noticed, is the annoying gameplay latency. Moves were being displayed about 200ms after the realtime input (tested on tekken 5, it was really unplayable, just the same as Hi-ping in online games).

If the problem happens to be a matter of transmission/bandwidth, then a cheap TV tuner card might be of some trouble. I didn't test with a VGA adapter so i can't tell, though.
