Growlancer: Heritage of War (aka Generations)

Atlus is going to release Growlancer: Heritage of War, which was originally called generations in japan. Due to Working Designs calling the last Growlancer "generations" the name was changed.

The game is apparently a "true limited edition" meaning there will only be one print and it will come with a bunch of goodies as well:

omg. Sooo secksah~ <3 I heard about this from my brother a week or two back I think. I've got money to burn, so I think I'll snag this. The Growlanser: Generations that WD released was very pleasant. I hope this follows the trend...

Either way, quite a nice grab bag of goodies. Very WD-ish, I must say. ATLUS may not have the humor, but they certainly think about the customers.

Or maybe the game blows and this is an attempt at fast cash =D

Can't wait...Growlanser 2 was an amazing game (and 3 wasn't bad either, from what I've played) and I hope 5 turns out to be just as good. I don't play too many RPG's anymore, but I'm definitely grabbing the Limited Edition for this sucker on day one.

Hopefully 1, 4 and 6 will come along as well eventually. If Atlus' treatment of the Megaten series is any indication, they will...

Holy shit. I'm glad I preordered it on a whim. I liked the last one enough to warrant a preorder anyway, but wow.

Well the only place i have found a review for this game is RPG Fan and it doesn't look good. At this point, I'm still considering just buying it for the extras and the off chance that i may like it. Anyone know of other sites with reviews?

Forsety Sep 6, 2007 08:15 PM

RPGFan's review is only for the import version. Our version is getting a updated/fixed battle system, similar to the 6th game coming out in Japan. I'm not sure that alone will save it though. Seems like the entire game as a whole was trashed; citing poor character development and atrocious visuals. I'm still considering picking it up, too, though... since it would still have fair collector's value.

I really have no clue about the Growlanser series (thread title is wrong, also) but I just ordered this.

There's no way in hell I'm passing up the opportunity of that limited edition. It feels like Working Designs all over again.

TheKnightOfNee Sep 24, 2007 08:09 AM

I don't know anything about Growlanser games, but hearing limited edition and seeing that image full of the stuff I would get makes me eager to find out more. If this is something, I sure don't want to miss out on it.

And this topic has once again reminded me of how much I miss Working Designs.

I knew I saw this art of Growlanser before. It's done by Satoshi Urushihara, and he's a famous ero artist.

Atlus, U.S.A., Inc. today officially announced a Limited Edition release of Growlanser: Heritage of War, the latest entry in the critically-acclaimed Growlanser series. The title will only receive a single print run - when the initial allocation has sold out, the game will no longer be available for purchase.
Are they printing copies of the game only? I ordered the LE, but I don't think they'll restrict themselves to it at all. And there's only apparently a small, single, first print run of the LE being made.

All copies produced are to be the LEs, and that one run of the entire game being made is indeed it.

Fortunately, the people who miss out on this either by not knowing about it or not picking it up in time should have no trouble finding resellers. I can imagine many people were disappointed with the end product in this case.

Looks fine to me.

Damn... I want this.

So its exact same thing with just extra goodies? >=O

Sorry, my wording was bad. I wasn't referring to the extras. The extras are nice.

The game itself is kinda iffy, though. It's a shame, too. I really liked the older ones.

This game got questionable reviews everywhere, so yeah. Even if they update the combat it still isn't going to suddenly fix the myriad of other issues it has, either. Still, I'm a sucker for rare collectors editions so I still got it anyway. :'(

"Everywhere"?

I haven't played the game but it arrived today. The box set is nice. It opens from the top, and the key chain has it's own little box in foam casing. Removing that reveals the pins on the left and it comes with two holographic cards sitting on top of the art book. The media CD isn't anything special, just the OVA and a few random bits and pieces. I was expecting an interview with the developers but I guess not.

The art book is probably the best thing about the box set, considering it's 1) released in America and 2) doesn't totally suck balls. Outstanding.

As for the game, no idea. Still sealed.

No. Hard Pass. Oct 1, 2007 11:35 AM

The game sucks balls. It is absolute garbage. I have half a mind to sell the whole piece of shit boxset (even with the nice extras) to my buddy.

Forsety Oct 1, 2007 02:28 PM

^ Haha... and yes, "everywhere". I was talking import-wise when I said that but still. I won't make any assumptions about the game yet since I haven't gotten around to trying it out but it didn't get anything past mediocre scores across the board. (25/40 from Famitsu, even)

This game sucks, don't bother. Buy soul nomad instead^^

Or don't, because Soul Nomad is pretty bad in itself. But, this game is worse, though. I mean, this game doesn't even keep track of your TIME. Urushihara's art is good, but uh, the game isn't. I'd just go back to your missed PS2 RPGs if you're really wanting to play something.

Not sure if I regret purchasing this item or not, but who cares. It's bound to become rare with all the crap that comes with it. Right? :(

Def hold on to the box, i'm doing the same thing. As for soul nomad, i kinda like it as it's been a while i've played a tactical/strag rpg (since disga 2 i think). Going back to the missed rpgs? I WISH, the thing is i've completed them all:tpg:

No you haven't.

Elegy Oct 3, 2007 01:08 PM

I am gonna buy this today or tomorrow. I really loved Growlanser Generations, so I was thrilled that another was being released. I thought the Growlanser games were dead for sure since WD kicked the bucket. I hope someday 1 and 3 will get released. =T I am hoping it doesn't suck, but we'll see. *cough*

Kimchi Oct 3, 2007 06:26 PM

Box arrived... its good so far. No, its defiantly not kicking ass but its defiantly better than that Nomad crap.
