IOSYS at Comiket: Touhou Suisui Suusuu

Comiket 72 is approaching fast, next weekend is when the doors open and every anime nerd in japan piles into a convention hall. While there aren't enough small dangly pine trees in the world to make that a comfortable atmosphere, there are plenty of worthwhile works coming from the event. Among the plethora of Touhou-ware, there will be Touhou 10, a second fighting game, and a new remix album by IOSYS.

To promote their album, IOSYS have posted three flash videos on their website showcasing the first three tracks

The first looks like a parody of some H-game opening, I have no idea. It features Marisa, Reimu, and Suika
Flash: Oyome Ni Shinasai

The second is a somewhat less-insane followup to OVERDRIVE, also done by different artists.
Flash: Usatei
WITEWITEWITEWITEWITEWITEWITEWITEWITEetc.

The third is a huge Touhou-IIDX combination. I believe the song is the Extra stage boss theme from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, mixed in with beatmaniaIIDX songs including GO BERZERK from IIDX 11 RED CS, SigSig from IIDX 12 Happy Sky, and Second HEaven from IIDX 14 Gold.
Flash: taboo tears you up

I liked Touhou Tsuki Torou, so I'm hoping this album turns out to be just as enjoyable. I'm already attached to the TouhouIIDX mashup.

Suisui Suusuu... what? (lol pseudo-chinese)

In other news Usatei rocks my socks off, love that Marisa cameo.

Dhsu Aug 8, 2007 02:23 PM

I'm looking forward to hearing "DEAD GIRLS BE-BOP!!"

Although...does Touhou really count as anime?

Bigblah Aug 8, 2007 02:30 PM

Doesn't matter, Touhou probably has more fans in Animespot than Gaming.

Also, youtube version for easier viewing:

Well, I was actually gonna suggest GGMD, since I know there are Touhou music fans there.

Check the description of the subforum below this one.

Also, excellent flash videos, though Usatei would have been much better for me if the first half of it wasn't dominated by Japanese dialogue.

They got a new flash up, seems to be Suika's theme.. Argh.. can't remember.

edit: Damn.. my eyes are getting bad.. sorry. -_-

Those three flashes are already uploaded. The top one is just a preview of four flashes, but the fourth still says "COMING SOON." I'll be sure to post it as soon as it's added.

CLOudkiller Aug 9, 2007 10:29 PM

the 4th one is up if anyone is intererested. Hah! I got in before you!! :D

God I love IOSYS (hence the sig/av set) both the music and animations. So on crack~

I've always wanted to buy their music, but I've never really figured out if it was possible and how. I can't go to Comiket or anything like that...

I'm not a big fan of Taboo or the IIDX mixup, but Usatei is really good. Hmm.. I'll consider ordering this along with Mountain of Faith when my doujin supplier manages to get these in stock.

No, and I hope they don't make an anime out of it (although, someone is). What the hell would it be about? Flying around Gensokyo shooting at eachother? Hunting down Remilia? Moon chasing? I don't see it working whatsoever.

Well, it could take maybe one of the touhou games like PCB and make it into a movie or something. :D

I wouldn't rule it out, although a studio called Maikaze is making it's own touhou anime. Behold:

There's no telling what it's about, I just don't see what they could make the story of without adding a bunch of fillers. See, touhou holds a charm which shines when you're playing it, but that can't be seen in an anime. Sort of like the Border of Death flash IOSYS put out, it isn't quite the same seeing people dodge bullets.

Dhsu Aug 14, 2007 01:15 AM

I definitely hope they use more than 10 total frames of animation in the final product.

...or they could do an original story in which some disaster strikes Gensokyo and the girls need to find out what's going on. If they just executed the show in a similar fashion to what was done with Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's, I think it could go over really well.

And reposting a legendary Nanoha A's trailer for people to get an idea of what Nanoha is all about and who haven't been exposed to anything Nanoha-related:

"Belkan Knights"... "A's Combat Zero"... haha, so bad (i.e. good).

Yeah, see, people will be too critical of a touhou anime or movie. It's like a popular game (take Final Fantasy 7 for example) and the demand for a perfect sequel will be so high that it'd be damn near impossible to make.

Maikaze is only a small project site working on these things, so don't expect anything wonderful.

The many FFVII: Advent Children fanboys will disagree with that notion. Despite Advent Children being a very subpar piece of work in everything but the eye-candy and maybe the music, there are a lot of FFVII fanboys who've accepted Advent Children as a legitimate follow-up to the game.

Even as a fan I don't think it was as popular as FF7. This is speaking from just my view. Personally, I'm just glad they were even made into an anime. :D

In any case Touhou Suisui Suusuu is out.
