First Eschalon: Book 1

Teaser Video

First Eschalon is an indie RPG being developed by Basilisk Games for the PC. It's a 2D isometric game with a visual presentation that resembles Arcanum, but with slick animations and sweet particle effects that combine to create a very appealing aesthetic. I didn't know what to think months ago when all there was to go on were screenshots, but with the release of the teaser trailer it looks like something actually worth paying for.

It's also turn-based, which tickles my innards.

Yeah, I just discovered this a few days before you posted about it. It looked intriguing then, but after seeing it in action I'm very excited for this indie. I just hope it doesn't turn into another Siege of Avalon

I'll definitely be at least downloading the demo when it comes out. If I really dig it, I'll gladly shell out the cash for this one. It's always a pleasure to support these independent developer groups, considering some of them are creating some very cool games, especially compared to what PC gamers have been seeing coming out as of late.

Good call on bringing this one up. I only wish a couple more people would have responded.

To be honest, I had to hold off on my first attempt at response. Because, y'know, Bradyloveturnbasedlol. Had to do that, because I enjoy a good jest (obviously 'good' means 'not funny' in this case). The higher resolution particle effects admittedly don't impress me, though watching everything 'splode at the end of the video was a rather nice show of force and I appreciate the aesthetic of that. These CRPGs usually require me to play, rather than see in order to draw my interest, so I'll follow a potential demo or release at any rate.

TURN BASED!!!111

Looks like crap. Good luck, have fun.

Trolling and spamming. Quality post right there.

Hmm. Makes me think of Divine Divinity.
Hopefully they'll have a better-than-average storyline to round out the whole thing. Otherwise, it's just another 2-d dungeon crawler. =/

Bradylama Jul 29, 2007 12:35 PM

Storytelling is one of the major goals of the project, if not the largest focus.

So you know.

Hope it doesn't suck ass.

I dunno. The spelling of "Echelon" in this instance perturbs me =p I'll give it a look. Thanks Brady~
