IPHONE a big or short Step for phones?

I have got my hands on a iphone but its not mine but it looks cool from what i have touched, its this the big leap for phones,or a small step for us americans?

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Jul 14, 2007 09:59 PM

Space after commas.

But, anyway, it's not really a big step at all. Nokia (I think, and I'm sure others) have had similar devices out for a while now. Apple just likes to herald everything they release as being the next big step in technology. See: The iPod.

Shonos Jul 14, 2007 09:59 PM

Uh, there are cheaper phones with the same (or more) features. They just do not have the apple logo on em or apple's slick design.

So it isn't really a change at all for phones.

its an understatement

Internet on phones isn't new. MP3s on phones isn't new. Touchscreens on phones aren't new.

How is this revolutionary. It sold on hype and Apple made obscene profits, selling a $200-$220 phone for $500-$600.

Chaotic Jul 14, 2007 11:40 PM

Adding on to the fact that it's not as efficient as everyone had hoped, makes it totally not worth it.

Divest Jul 14, 2007 11:43 PM

I ain't gonna lie.

If I had the money, I'd get one. It looks cool, you can play music on it, you can like... well it looks cool.

Mr.Custom Jul 14, 2007 11:50 PM

well the commericals make me want it more every day it just looks amazing i'm gonna wait till the $200 knockoff(yea right)

AND THAT'S JUST WHAT APPLE WANTS YOU TO DO!

Still not worth my money when my even cheaper cell phone works just as efficiently, and probably better than the iPhone.

Divest Jul 15, 2007 01:17 AM

Yeah, that's another thing. It comes out to like $175 a month if you want all the features activated.

Hachifusa Jul 15, 2007 01:20 AM

You know the commercial, the one that involves scanning through a map and then clicking on the number to dial it?

Sounds cool, but I almost never call anyone, period. When I do, it's a friend to ask him/her to hang out. That's pretty much it.

I mean, I hate to be the killjoy, but is it really necessary to have all of this technology on a phone?

Wow, something I didn't know (seriously). I'd figure that the internet would cost something, but all the little extras they scream joy about costs that much?

Yeesh.

Ayos Jul 15, 2007 01:43 AM

I have an iPod and a cell phone that can get on the web. What do I need this thing for?

The Iphone is to Macintosh as the AT&T 8525 is to a PC.

I've wanted a 8525 for a while now, but they're expensive and I can't justify spending that kind of money on it - even if it does have fucking MS Word and a qurty keyboard and GPS and MP3s and all sorts of batshit insane stuff.

Mr.Custom Jul 15, 2007 01:56 AM

Wow analogys and metophors ...iphone is to not absolute entertainment but close.

Sepharite Jul 15, 2007 02:06 AM

Using phones for its technology? When did that ever happen? It's all about picking up girls with phones. They see you with it, they know you're rich = sexy time tonightt.

Still living in dream world ._.

Chaotic Jul 15, 2007 02:09 AM

That made no sense whatsoever, Custom.

Yeah, the iPhone WAS made for entertainment. The only difference between the iPhone and the iPod Video is that one of them could make phone calls and browse the internet at ridiculously slow speeds and that one almost costs $300-400 more than the other.

If you seriously think about it, a normal cellphone and an iPod combined could do the same thing the iPhone does for a lot cheaper.

Apple isn't making a step forward or backwards. They're jumping in place trying to say their phone is better, when it's clearly not.

Infernal Monkey Jul 15, 2007 02:21 AM

Does the iPhone automatically reply to text messages with 'lol yeah lol'? Can the iPhone transform your voice into Fat Albert's when you ring people? How about if you order a pizza from your iPhone, does the iPhone go and greet the wally at the front door? What if you're on the move, does the iPod dispense Pez? If you upload a song produced by any one of the tossers on the various Pop Idol reality shows as your ring tone, does the iPod explode and kill the user? Can the iPod walk your dog? Can it detect cats nearby for a more exciting trip?

No. No it can't. It's not a step, it's a big stupid expensive wank fest stumble, like the N-Gage. Except you can't even play Super Monkey Ball on the iPhone!

Except that the AT&T 8525 is not horribly over priced. But I guess Apple hardware is, so the comparison still works.

I'm going to agree with most of the people in this thread and say that the iPhone is nothing new, and not that spectacular.

Also, I probably wouldn't buy one if I had the money. I would get a phone that I thought was cool, and an iPod. I'm sure I could find better things to waste my money on.

Divest Jul 15, 2007 03:34 PM

Why spend twice as much money on gadgets when you can consolidate the debt into one device? Unless you just don't like the iPhone period, which, I could understand, I guess, but if you're going to get an iPod anyways...

Divest Jul 15, 2007 03:42 PM

The IPHONE can play World of Warcraft?

Wow. Now there's absolutely no hope in getting WoW nerds to be social. Even getting them out of the house won't solve any problems. :/

StarBeamAlpha Jul 16, 2007 11:09 PM

After actually trying out the iphone, I have to say a big step. It's like having the internet in your pocket!

Mucknuggle Jul 17, 2007 06:29 AM

Big step? Technology wise, no. Marketing wise, yes. Apple is making an obscene profit on this thing. It's perhaps one of the most overpriced products out on the market.
