Yesterday, I witnessed psychosis parent
Guys, yesterday was one of the most bizarre and scariest day in my life, seriously. Around this week, my friend brought his mother with him to our dormitory, everything seems right except this chinese woman talks too much about her life with every person she encountered to.
Her psychosis symptoms shown during the last three days when she appears screaming at our dormitory, showing disorganized speech behaviour, singing random song during conversation, showing some superiority complex by talking mandarin to her listener, and even worse, she occasionally put off her cloth or trouser, making her half naked (OMG O_O) She also talks random things with swearing words during her conversation to his son like "fuck", "shit", "dog", "pig", etc (anything that considered offensive). Just imagine, ever thought how you would feel if your mom yelled "fuck" to you? Gosh! I feel poor to her son, because since the last 9 hours he was being commanded some random, non-sensical things to do such sitting in the floor, taking off his cloth, pretending to be in church or enchanting some random moslem prayer. Gosh, honestly I havent been able to sleep since yesterday, but it doesnt matter because I'm more worried about my friend, who seems suffers the most. I actually want to call police because she keeps the dormitory awake from last midnight to morning, but since she's my friend's mom, and he doesnt show any sign of resistence either, all I could do is to sit and watch, hoping this bizarre shall end soon. :( This is my first experience encountering some psychosis, mentally disordered person, I'm really not sure what to do. What would you do in this situation? call hospital? call police? |
Wow. That's some serious weird shit there. I can't imagine being the son and doing everything she asks him to do (He's sane right?) I'd be too embarassed to have her around.
I wouldn't call the authorities on her, I think that's up to her family to decide (and if they have financial stability to treat her.) Do you know if she's on medication or if your friend's family doing anything about it? |
Eriol, what will she say if you guys sit her down and tell her that her behavior is becoming unmanageable? A mature person would be willing to listen to reason. Then again, maturity often gives way to insanity. The best course of action I think would be to give her the help that she and her family deserves. This might be something that could be helped by medication.
Additionally, she may not have psychosis. She may in fact have bi-polar disorder. Typical behavior or symptoms of this include mania, which include feelings of grandeur and invulnerability. My friends grandmother would often walk into other people's houses, complete strangers and strike up a conversation with them. She was bi polar. Symptoms of mania (in the case of manic behavior) might explain the 'superiority' issues and also perhaps the naked-ness. (ughh) At any rate, she is delusional. I am curious to know how old she is. Anyhow, good luck with this. |

@phantom
unfortunately, my friend doesnt say anything to me since he (still) keeps his mother at busy. I'm still waiting for the full explanation from him as well, since his mother made me unable to sleep well since yesterday. @rainman rain, actually, her behaviour unfortunately, has been unmanageable already, I think most of all guys in our dormitory prefer to hide in our room because that woman actually start to screw up things she could find in her external environment (like chicken utensil) and she ended up throwing them at dustbin, though they are potentially could be used to hurt others as well. I will check out article about bipolar disorder as well, because I'm still not be able to clearly identify the symptoms. Whew, sometime life is sure much stranger thatn fiction! O_O (How I wish this were just a nightmare, sigh) |
She probably has bipolar disorder and is having a manic episode. You described some classic symptoms such as disoriented and rapid speech, euphoria, hypersexuality, insomnia, grandiosity, etc. This is over the internet, however, so I'm just going out on a limb here. Tell your friend to get her to a mental health facility for a psych. eval. Every manic episode, a person loses more and more brain cells, and left untreated, the chemical imbalances will take its toll not only mentally but physically also as the brain chemistry permanently damages the organ.
dang, beat to the punch. |

The woman is a trip, she should definitely seek medical attention and be on medication or therapy.
I wouldn't do anything because she's not my mom or any relative, but the son should expect something and should be the one to call the police or a doctor. |
