Working Out

I didn't see this anywhere, so I'm going to make a thread out of it. :)

So, how many of you workout? Do you have a specific routine that you go through? Do you take supplements?

As for me, I tend to work out about everyday (except weekends). This is how my schedule is so far:

Mon: Biceps, Abs
Tues: Chest, Triceps, Abs
Wed: Shoulders, Back, Abs
Thurs: Biceps, Abs
Fri: Chest, Triceps, Abs

Its a pretty straight-forward routine, but its actually quite nice. I'm up to about... 75 on the curl bar, or about 40s or 35s for dumbbells, and I can bench about 135. It ain't much, but I'm concentrating mainly on my biceps and triceps.

Hmm I dont really have a work out schedule but when I do this is usually how it go's:

-Mile Run
-100 Push ups
-100 Crunches
-3 reps of 10 curling 40lb's
-Sitting down watching TV and just lifting 10lb dumbells the whole time
-3 reps of 10 of military presses, 65lb's

I dont do this often but I try too atleast twice a week.

I try to keep a pretty average workout, about every other day or so. I do 3 sets of 5 with 200lb's on bench. Ive been floating around that number recently only due to the fact that Im having trouble staying regular with my bench workouts. and then about 65 push ups, 100 sit ups, and then leg presses and usually a good bike ride or jog for some cardio.

I've started out a small workout/warmup routine everyday:

Arm Circles (Spin both directions, sides, above, and front)
Lift dumbells (10 per arm, 15 behind back for triceps)
2 minutes leg lifts
2 minutes flutter kicks
2 minutes crunches
2 minutes alternating crunches
2 minutes situps (Not sure what to call it. Basically my legs are up in the air crossed while I do situps)
2 minute holding pushup? (Basically you curve your back and bend your arms and hold the position for 2 minutes)

I do this everyday, though as soon as my job is over, I need to dedicate around 3 hours for a workout everyday. This will include the same routine, plus lots of running, twice a day. I'm doing this to get into shape, and to lose some weight before I head into ROTC.

I don't really have a schedule. Back when I used to run on the track and cross country team, I'd run 1.5-3 miles a day and do some pushups, situps, and other exercises.

Right now, I only exercise once in a while. It's either running, biking, or crunches. I try to get in 100 crunches three times a week. I should really be working on my upper body strength, especially my biceps and triceps, but I can't get myself to do them willingly. That's not good, considering that I have very little upper body strength.

Does this actually do any good? I've heard from people that they do & some say it's a waste of time. What's your opinion?

Minion Mar 18, 2006 06:11 PM

Stretching definitely does good, yeah.

Greykin Mar 18, 2006 06:16 PM

Over my march break and stuff, I don't really work out. When I go to school, it is part of my routine. I have a little schedule and timetable I go by. I pretty much HAVE to work out to succeed in the program I chose for college, so that's probably my motivation =/.

Mucknuggle Mar 18, 2006 06:24 PM

Spyer, you are overworking your muscles. You really need to work them out only once a week. You should be concentrating more on your core muscles. Biceps and triceps are very small muscles and don't take much work to improve. Anyhow, if anybody is serious about their lifting, I suggest that they check out www.ironmagazineforums.com - I've been going here for a while and it's been a great help. The people there are awesome.

I don't do any lifting-type stuff, nor pure running (though I'll run a mile sometimes). I play basketball 2-4 hours a few times per week. That's pretty much it as far as "workouts."

I do some other activities as well. I got my racquetball class that's about an hour twice a week. I play some futsal as least once a week. I also play 2 hours of dodgeball most Thursday nights. Also, an intramural soccer season's gotten started and I'm playing on 2 teams for that. Intramural volleyball and dodgeball are gonna start some time too. So it's more just sports instead of workouts.

Rydia Mar 18, 2006 06:35 PM

I don't do much running, but I walk for a few hours a week and do some simple stretching. It'd be good to go to a gym, but I don't have much time during the day.

All you really need is an hour, three times a week. Another 30 min x 3 for cardio.

My_Lo Mar 18, 2006 06:46 PM

1. Open the bottle
2. Lift up my arm
3. Open my mouth
4. Swallow the beer

3 series of 5 as often as possible... ^_-

No, seriously... Last year I was doing work out but it was more boring than anything else...

Safer Serge Mar 18, 2006 07:06 PM

I work out four times a week. Normally that's my routine:

Mon-Wed:
Triceps, Chest, Shoulders, Calves + 60min. cardio (also abs on mondays)

Tue-Thu:
Biceps, Back, Traps, Legs + 30min. cardio (also abs on thursdays)

I just love working out. It's really good when you see the results after some time: stronger, leaner, sexier. :edgarrock:

Chicks generally don't care if you work out.

<3 Minion.

I train with weights approximately 3 times per week and I do cardio twice to three times per week depending on how busy my school schedule is.

But they do care if you have a nice body or not. You know, having a nice body is never a bad thing. Good for your health too. (hint hint)

Acro-nym Mar 18, 2006 07:39 PM

I would like to work out. I never seem to have enough time. I think I get a fair amount of exercise while traveling around school and frequent stretching, but I know I could get more. I think the issue really lies in me not applying myself. Or it could be that I'm right and I really don't have enough time.

They give you a lot of stamina for your arms, which in turn lets you lift more. It also tones your muscles. We did it for wrestling practice everyday.

I've been working out for 8 years. Doesn't make a shit of difference. Every woman I've ever spoken to doesn't care about it. If anything, they don't want guys who are too buff.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 08:58 PM

I've always thought it was ridiculous to work out just to score with a girl.

I do it for my own well being, and goals.

Seriously, they don't want guys that are too buff? Doesn't the word ''too'' kind of inherently imply that?

Not like anyone even mentioned women before you, so I don't know where this came from.

Just the same way guys dont like it when girls have breasts that are TOO big. Just because someone works out, doesn't mean they automatically end up looking like Ronnie Coleman.

Arbok Mar 18, 2006 09:18 PM

I tend to lift weights myself, working mostly on upper body strength. I try to do it every other day, but that rarely works out, especially with college back in.

Gumby Mar 18, 2006 09:32 PM

I hit the gym at least twice a week my goal being 4 times a week. While I am there I push most of my major muscle groups to failure with 5x5 sets. Makes for a seriously sore body the next day but so far it has proven to cause my strength and overall muscle mass to increase relatively fast.
