It all started when i went to folder options and changed the icon of the drives.
When i did this upon clicking the drives in my computer the search window would open...so i went to folder options>file types>drive>advanced and saw that there was a search event which is why on clicking the search window would show up.
So to change this i added a new event named "open" and the application to run is explorer...and now when i click the drives in my computer the corresponding drive opens but in a new window..

I go to folder options and see that there is no change in "browse the folder in the same window" option.

So i need some help in changing this to default.

That's a bizarre problem you've got there.

Have you tried performing a system restore? (Control Panel-->Maintenance---System Restore)? I imagine that would change the settings back to default if you roll it back to a day or so before everything went wild.
