Ripping DVD ISOs with a Mac?
 

Yeah, the title explains it all. Is there a program that can do this?

Ripping ISOs? As in, creating an ISO image file of an existing DVD disc? Or do you mean mounting an image file of a video DVD and then ripping/decrypting the VOB video streams from it? OR do you mean ripping and decrypting the VOB video streams from an actual disc?

Please clarify, there's a couple different answer to these questions.

I need to rip an ISO onto my computer from the DVD and then re-burn it at a lower speed.

Well now, that's the easiest—no extra programs required. :) Just use "Disk Utility," which lives in /Applications/Utilities. From there you can select the DVD, and choose File > New > Image from Device... and just create a CD/DVD master (.cdr) image in a location of your choosing. Once it's done you can easily select the newly created image in the sidebar (where it will appear), pop in a blank DVD, and hit that beautiful burn button.

You can, incidentally, also use this program to create compressed .dmg images from folders, password-protected & encrypted images for storage of sensitive data... all of it included with OS X. Gotta love that action.

EDIT: I am, of course, assuming you have OS X of a relatively recent version. If you are stuck on OS 9, then I have significantly less guidance for you (other than find an older version of Toast Titanium and use that).

Cless: do you know if FirestarterFX implemented DVD imaging? I used it way back in the day as an OSX equivalent to Alcohol 120% for copy-crippled CDs, but I had never tried it out on a DVD.

Otherwise, if Onyx has a copy of Toast, it has support for making image files as well. The Disk Utility is really a great way to go, though, and a great volume-manipulation tool in general.
