Exercise Software

This is sort of a new one, and I hope it's in the right forum...

I work out. Sort of. Probably lift about twice a week, heavily working different muscle groups on different days during the week. I know - I should do it more often, and I plan to! Summer is here, and since I'm not worrying about school, I want to get more active in addition to lifting, like jogging, biking, swimming, sports, whatever.

One thing that I would really like to keep track of is my performance over a long period of time. I've heard some people talk about computer programs that can keep track of everything you have done and could possibly do in a workout, and are equipped with all sorts of neat little features - stuff like a graph showing how much weight you've increased on the bench over the last 3 months, showing average distance ran, whatever, etc.

I am just wondering if anybody has ever used a piece of software like this before, and if it has been worth it. Obviously this software is not necessary for me to exercise, but I thought it might be both fun and a motivational tool for me at the same time, and would be of pretty great benefit. Anyways, what software do you recommend?

Seriously unless the software is free don't waste your money, just keep track of what you do in a little note book.

Yeah, sorry. That was something I meant to include, but completely forgot to.

I looked around before I made this thread and saw quite a few different programs out there, and some were ridiculously expensive. One that is free is preferred, but if it's pirateable (don't look at me that way) then that will work just fine.

You could probably set this up pretty nicely in Excel with just a little bit of work.

You know what, I probably will end up doing that since I just took an entire class devoted to writing macros in Excel. If anything it would help improve my knowledge of vb. I guess I'm just looking for the lazy/easy way out...

For your food journal use www.fitday.com as suggested above. For your lifts and measurements use http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/
