PS2 does not recognise PS1 memory card

Please fell free to move this if it is not in the correct place.

Anyway, as the title suggests my slimline PS2 does not recognise My PS1 memory card.

My old "chunky" PS2 did recognise it but when that broke I had to buy a slimline.

Any advice on how to fix this.

Thanks

Well, is it a Sony memory card? It could be that newer consoles are less compatible to third-party products.

No it's not a sony memory card but the instrunction manual doesn't say anything about it

My slimline reads my Sony PS1 memory cards, but it won't read my 3rd party PS2 card that I had used briefly on my chunky PS2. When I first bought my PS2, there was a memory card shortage, and the only one I could find was this horrible third party one that required a disc to boot up. I used it as a backup on my old PS2, but when I bought the new slimline, I couldn't access the card anymore.

Yes, I can confirm what nutty said. I do also have a slimline PS2 and it won't read any other PS1 memory cards than the original Sony ones. My bigger PS2 which I had before did not make any trouble, but the slimline's pretty picky, I guess.

That, and really, Sony hates 3rd party peripherals. It'll eat them like an overweight kid at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

My friend had similar situation, the only difference was that he could access the data via games, only the system browser didn't see the MC, games didn't have any trouble with that. Did you tried to access memory card content only by the system browser or by using PS1 games as well?

WooshaQ

I have only tried using the system browser but will try through the game like you said tonight. If not then I suppose I'll have to find a Sony one.

thanks for all the help

This hasn't been asked so.. have you tried the PS1 memory card in the PS2's second slot?

Infernal Monkey Jun 6, 2007 08:01 AM

Oh so this is why my memory card couldn't be detected when I got my new PS2. Didn't come up on the browser screen when I tried it in both slots (sexy). I thought it'd just died of old age. So they block you from viewing the junk you've got saved on third party cards but don't sell official ones anymore. That's some good work. :cmb:

Elixir: Yes I have tried it in both slots but still didn't work.

WooshaQ: tried what you suggested but that didn't work either.

Looks like I'll have to track down an official one. DANG!!!

Damn. Is that only on the newest slim model or the older slim models too?
