FINALLY: Gamingforce Archive Board Up

The Gamingforce Archive Board is now available for public access. The board is VIEW ONLY and registration is disabled. You can still login with your old username/password if you have an account to access your private messages and private journal entries.

Please note that no attachments or avatars have been saved and there may be a bunch of bugs since old forum features were not reintegrated into the archive.

You can always access the archive board via the Quick Links menu (on top) by selecting GFF Archive Board.

Enjoy and bring back some old discussions from the archive board to our live forums! :)

Very, nice. But wait, for your viewing pleasure, my very first post. If you find my first posting too dry, here's my first post with real discussion.
I only had made 1037 posts by then, I was a very slow poster.

Kaleb.G Mar 17, 2006 09:28 PM

I'm having problems viewing specific threads, such as this one:
http://www.gamingforce.com/gffarchiv...ead.php?t=2205

Kaiten Mar 17, 2006 09:41 PM

Why are there no avatars? Did the server GFF was on not have an avatar or something?
It would be great to see what avatar I had back in '05, and how it compares to the one I have now (meaning, has my GIMP usage improved at all?).

Kaleb.G Mar 17, 2006 09:53 PM

If you're asking for the reason why the avatars are not there, it's because the avatars were stored as files on the server, but all of the posts and threads were stored in the database. The backup only contained information from the database.

You cannot be serious about this. I refuse to believe there could be someone this stupid.

Were you even paying attention as to why GFF crashed and that we had to restart?

Databases don't save the actual images, just links to them.

Every file that was actually stored on that server is GONE. Is this something hard to understand?

I'm still calling that you're just doing this for postcount.

I'm noticing this problem with some of the larger threads, especially those that have a couple hundreds of replies.

nazpyro Mar 18, 2006 01:29 AM

Yeah, I noticed this. I was looking at my old FTP thread (haha) to see when I actually last had it open to the public. It's looking like it was way back in summer of 2004. Crazy... It's nice to look back through all of this old stuff, though I was pretty much gone from it all from the middle of 2004 to 2005.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 18, 2006 01:38 AM

This is awesome - a trip down memory lane, to be sure.

Thanks for this Bobo. I'm glad we have a chunk of our past archived to reference. <3

Cool, the archive board is from like right after another crash.

Fjordor Mar 18, 2006 03:47 AM

Wow.
I had 2 posts at that time. Both were related to niltrogs sheet music FTP.

Tawnee Van Pelt Mar 18, 2006 04:04 AM

COOL. Man, how many posts!!

Elixir Mar 18, 2006 04:23 AM

Wow, I had 14 posts. I was so active.

I'm glad that something like this exists, but I was kind of expecting, well, the "December backup" that everybody was speaking of.

Wall Feces Mar 18, 2006 11:18 AM

Ahh the Revolution thread was still in its infancy. Oh the downward spirals it saw...

Basil Mar 18, 2006 11:29 AM

I can't log in, nor can I retrieve a new password from the 'Forgotten Password?' form... any tips?

Grawl Mar 18, 2006 11:47 AM

Perhaps it's a nice idea to set all forums so, that they show all threads since the beginning on default. And as said before, some threads don't work :(

Oh well.

I'm having trouble viewing the archive board. it's mainly just when I scroll or click on a field that requires typing, but the tables mess up and the text sort of smears into eachother. I can't even take a screenshot of it for some reason.

is this just a problem with my browser?

I just tried it, and I am able to take screenshots (with "Print Screen").

Outlaw Mar 18, 2006 03:24 PM

That sucks....I can't log in -_- ....well that could be because I changed my password right before the site crashed. But that could be because the archives only go up to march 2005. So I really don't mind.

But from reading over my old posts I have come to this conclusion: Wow....I spell better now :eyebrow: ....

that's what I tried, but it says something about not enough information to make a bitmap image out of.

ah well.

And this is only happening with GFF Archive?

That's odd...

silvervalkyrie Mar 19, 2006 03:13 PM

Thanks for the archived threads; I was able to save my important PMs and request thread.

CileGray Mar 19, 2006 03:26 PM

The only two topics of interest for me IE stoner and my ftp rules I can't even open since they are too big... woohoo for such a broken feature

nazpyro Mar 20, 2006 04:08 AM

I suppose it would be a good time to start updating the wiki pages with links to the "gffarchive" now. I don't know what to do with the threads that are no longer accessible.
