New Feature: Download Thread in PDF Format

Now there's a new button under Thread Tools that lets you download a PDF version of your favorite threads to keep on your computer. If you encounter any weird bugs with this new feature report them here. :3

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 17, 2006 06:19 PM

O, FUCKING AWESOME

I try to keep all sorts of shit on file, in case of anything ever happening to my beloved PROOF and FILES, but seriously, this is awesome. THANK YOU. I think I remember seeing an option similar to this years ago - I don't know if it existed in the last rendition of GFF before we lost everything?

Out of curiosity, PDF are larger than HTML files, post-graphics and everything, no? Because, you know, I PLAN on saving sooooo much now. I may need a new hardrive. Ahahaha~

Lady Miyomi Mar 17, 2006 06:31 PM

YES, this is FANTASTIC! Thanks, Miles!

Well, this particular PDF mod doesn't actually produce an exact replica of the thread -- it's more of a text version formatted for printing. So they shouldn't be too large.

Tawnee Van Pelt Mar 17, 2006 06:59 PM

Awesome!! Thanks for this nice feature!

Musharraf Mar 18, 2006 03:50 AM

Wow, I have to agree, this is pretty nice~
I will go ahead and create a GFF album with the best threads right away; too bad we don't have access to all those gems before the crash, though :(

How hard would it be to impliment one that does preserve all the graphics and everything?

Kilroy Mar 18, 2006 01:42 PM

Could this also be implemented in the journal, or is this something for bobo to put on his 'to-do'-list?

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 01:48 PM

To bad PDFs are complete shit.

Scarletdeath Mar 18, 2006 01:51 PM

Wow, this really helps with my archiving habit. No more large HTMLs due to sigs and images.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 02:00 PM

Uh, HTML doesn't save images. Are you on crack?

Rydia Mar 18, 2006 02:09 PM

This is good to hear. I would have used this a lot before the crash, but at least it's here now.

Kaleb.G Mar 18, 2006 06:29 PM

I think a PDF version that saves all of the images and formatting would be cool, but currently, this version isn't even as good looking as the "printable version" of the thread.

It can if you have the images saved in their respective folders.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 08:39 PM

No, HTML never saves images. And it's your own fault for saving the images to work with your HTML files anyhow.

RacinReaver Mar 18, 2006 09:16 PM

If you choose File -> Save Page it will save all of the images.

Stop trying to make yourself sound smart, you're just coming across as a dipshit.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 10:09 PM

HTML Links to the image, it doesn't save it.

Free.User Mar 18, 2006 10:23 PM

Well now your splitting hairs... so what you are saying is that an html document does not independantly execute a save command... but you know very well that when you save an html document, the images are saved aswell. Like RacinReaver said: Stop trying to sound smart.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 10:25 PM

Christ, as if you needed to be smart to realizse that HTML links to an image.

Though I've never need to do a 'Save As' on in a web browser before.

Kaleb.G Mar 18, 2006 11:06 PM

I think what Scarletdeath may be referring to is that the page HTML usually has a ton of tags defining styles and hyperlinks and image references and shit. Of course, I like all of that stuff.

Bigblah Mar 18, 2006 11:11 PM

Yes, yes, HTML doesn't contain any actual image data; browsers usually place the saved images in a separate folder and change the referenced paths accordingly, or in the case of Internet Explorer you can mash it all in a single "web archive" file (*.mht). And yes, there is an option to save just the HTML without the images.

But that is not the goddamn point here.

Stealth Mar 18, 2006 11:20 PM

My original point was that HTML files are smaller than PDFs anyhow.

Free.User Mar 19, 2006 12:20 AM

I wish Firefox supported .mht.... I used it so much when I was on IE.

Roph Mar 19, 2006 12:32 AM

that's pretty neat, but I agree it'd look alot better if it more closely resembled GFF. Just making the background colour GFF Blue and the text white would be cool.

Including images in the page could balloon some of them though =\ I guess having it as an option or something.

[edit] You could have it so posted images are put in the PDF as a hyperlink to the image, like it does for the forum links in the PDF. Just throwing ideas :cow:
