It seems like a big joke. But not.

That's another 60 dollars I'll be keeping, I guess.

I like how the voice of the Pinata in the bottom right corner is awesome.

This game goes against everything I stand for.

And Megalith is right, best voice since Final Mission NES.

I actually listened to the whole unveiling show of this and it does seem like it will be quite impressive. Will be great for Microsoft lower half age group. And it could be even more of hit of the counter tv show is successful. It just won't be at the top of my games to buy list. It will probably be a game to begin with where people think it's dumb ala kingdom hearts (people thought why would you want to play a game with disney characters and the like).

Infernal Monkey Mar 17, 2006 10:23 PM

Thread title needed 100% more Viva Piñata in it.

watkinzez Mar 17, 2006 10:30 PM

The standard Nintendo fanboy response:

Animal Crossing- Whoa, this is so addictive! I'm having so much fun it's online now and fun and cool I love how much you can do!

Viva Piñata- WTF what is Microsoft doing Rare is going down the drainpipe they've sold out kiddy crap OMG advertising ruins games.

They have a funny comic. I also agree that a sequel to Killer Instinct would have been ten thousand times more interesting. Ah well, I'll be passing on this one.

galen Mar 17, 2006 11:21 PM

You kids and your Killer Instinct. Let it go already.

This game...is strange. I don't know, aside from a few really great games, Rare kind of comes off like they're trying too hard. When I think of this game, I think of those quirky Japanese games like Katamari...but lame. Like a 10 year old trying to draw just like his favorite comic artist...

Cobalt Katze Mar 17, 2006 11:55 PM

The game's concept seems strangely morbid... these piñata creatures live for the sheer desire and pleasure of being beaten and torn apart by party-going children. I'd love to see this IP go the way of Conker's Bad Fur Day.

surasshu Mar 18, 2006 12:12 PM

Killer Instinct was NEVER good. I don't know where in your possibly drug-addled memory you made up a KI that didn't suck but it was strictly in your imagination.

Anyway this looks like it's going to rule.

NovaX Mar 19, 2006 06:35 AM

I like how this looks awesome, but no-one will buy it.

You really think this could be awesome? Explain how. I love games with a bizarre concept, but unless there's lots more than they are telling us, this game is limited. I was never that big of a fan of Rare anyway. Style over substance in 80% of their releases. I don't dig style over substance.

The game had little depth, true, but its gimmick of ridiculously long, and cool looking combos sold it really well. It also had an excellent presentation with its FMVs and an awesome announcer. Killer Instinct just appealed to the same crowd as the one for Mortal Kombat.

This game wasn't a Tekken or VF, but those games had so many sequels to perfect their gameplay while Rare gave up on KI when KI2 flopped. Essentially, the series had a lot of potential, but never really went anywhere.

FatsDomino Mar 19, 2006 06:45 PM

Has anyone even watched the promo yet? It actually doesn't look half bad.

http://wm.world.mii-streaming.net/me...istream500.wsx

Certainly it isn't the sort of game you'd expect on 360 and you have to question what Microsoft and Rare were thinking considering that audience but hey come next year with a better, ready supply of 360s (and maybe a price cut) that may change.

They say that Rare has been working on this game for a long time but I think anyone with eyes can see the influence from Animal Crossing and Pokémon. No complaints from me. Anything that Rare can manage to pick up from Nintendo, kiddie or not, is a good thing. I'll be following this.

I do wonder how 4kids will manage to fuck this show up though considering they don't have to dub something from Japan.

Tama8-chan Mar 19, 2006 07:19 PM

WTF was that shit.

They were trying WAAAY too hard to be funny.
But then its aimed at kiddies, so they were probably laughing their asses off.
And what's with the blatant plug at the merchandising scheme?
And that donkey thing has the nerve to call the....badger thing...a sellout?
LOL.

I have to admit though, the game looks VERY NICE.
But I'd like to see this grand venture of MS and Rare totally fail miserably.

FatsDomino Mar 19, 2006 07:42 PM

Well if MS uses this as a publicity stunt to lower the price of 360s so that kids and their parents can actually afford the damn thing then I'd love to see it succeed.

Limited? Have you not seen the trailer? It boasts a unique and fully customisable world. I am not so sure how piñatas are involved but it sounds interesting to say the least. It definately could be awesome, it's all up to Rare.

Tama8-chan Mar 20, 2006 07:34 AM

I look forward more to Will Wright's next game Spore than Viva Pinata, and any other 'fully customisable' game in the same vein.

I'm a Nintendo fan, so I should actually be saying that Animal Crossing rules!
But I hate it. It sucks ass.

Spore looks way more awesome than Viva Pinata, and it won't need a TV show nor an entire merchandising shit machine to be popular.

silvervalkyrie Mar 20, 2006 06:09 PM

I don't know what to say about this other than it's vibrant. I'll wait until more information is available before I decide whether it's worth the price of admission or not.

Conan-the-3rd Mar 21, 2006 03:32 AM

Come back when this is about 4kids geting the TMNT guys to do a Banjo Kazooie TAS.

This is made of "Not intrested", "Fail" and "Die already, 4kids"

Of course Spore looks much more impressive, I'd glady take Spore over this anyday, but you can't really compare. The magnitude of Spore, trumps anything Viva Piñata brings to the table. But I still am interested in how it will turn out.

FatsDomino Mar 21, 2006 07:09 AM

Oh god, I'd be willing to upgrade my computer yet again if I had to for Spore (which I won't have to probably since it's well-coded) since it has such an awesome concept. Spore is one of the few PC games that have gotten me excited as a gamer in many years.

surasshu Mar 21, 2006 07:32 AM

I think comparing this to Spore is unfair to this game. Spore is a serious game for the grown-up PC gaming crowd, this is a game for the whole family (including your idiot brother Timmy who watches Fox Kids all the damn day). Even because of the target audience, this game will never compare.

Nevertheless, I'm excited about this. It's quirky and different. Don't get me wrong, it could suck, but it could be awesome.

NovaX Mar 21, 2006 08:45 AM

I am still wondering why piñatas? They seem to have nothing to do with the concept of the game. I am sure they have a point, somewhere. Maybe after Rare finish the game in 2008 I'll finally realise the reason behind the piñatas.

Also I will have to upgrade my computer for Spore. But I have no problem with doing so, even if it's just for the game..
