Users who visited today.

Waste of bandwidth and space. Who's on now is sufficient, IMO.

Sir VG Mar 2, 2006 04:50 PM

It'll definately be too much clutter for the 1st week. Ditch it for now at least.

TRZD Mar 2, 2006 04:51 PM

I think in previous incarnations of the board it was simply a link, rather than a huge list clogging up the bottom of the page. That wouldn't be too bad to bring back, though at the same time I can't see how widely used it is, so I'm sure removing it wouldn't cause any major complaints.

Niekon Mar 2, 2006 04:56 PM

well you do have the option to at least hide that huge list... just use the little icon in the upper right corner of that field to hide the list. ^_^

Holy sh--

Is that section really necessary? I don't remember it being there before the crash.

Megalith Mar 2, 2006 11:09 PM

It's even more disturbing when you consider the fact that most of them watch anime.

Bigblah Mar 2, 2006 11:11 PM

Yes it is pretty disturbing that people with similar interests tend to group together

Dopefish Mar 2, 2006 11:14 PM

Note that the members list only lists 783 people.

samari Mar 2, 2006 11:18 PM

Who are those mystery invisible people, they must be FOUND

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 2, 2006 11:23 PM

It was the Great Reopening of Gamingforce after what - almost a month?

What did you expect? Everyone to trickle back slowly? Just the usernumber assignments were hyped beyond belief.

Its pretty clear a lot of people were waiting for the boards to come back.

Sakabadger Mar 2, 2006 11:33 PM

Just give it a few weeks and that section will become nice and compact (relatively) again.

Dopefish Mar 2, 2006 11:34 PM

Or you could click the little double arrow icon off to the side to hide it.

Outlaw Mar 2, 2006 11:37 PM

I never really got that section....sadly, as blind as I am, the first forum I had ever visited with that "Total members that have visited the forum today" Thing, I thought that it was the who's online thing :ashamed:.....now I know better...

Anyway....you can still hide it by using the magical hiding arrows that no body gives two glances at like I did :D.....

http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/2395/preview9bf.png

Darn, Dope got there before me -_-.....

Scarletdeath Mar 2, 2006 11:43 PM

Didn't know I could hide it =o

It's at 886 members now. I'll check back for the increase in a couple hours time.

Kaleb.G Mar 2, 2006 11:55 PM

Merging with the other thread that was already created about this.

I don't think this list will ever be this large after today (unless we open up GFA with mandatory registration again). However, I don't see why it needs to be all spread out on the index.

EDIT: If hiding it actually eliminates the query from being processed, then that's great. Otherwise...

Bigblah Mar 3, 2006 12:35 AM

I'm guessing that the list is cached, so it shouldn't be too much of a strain on the database.

Dopefish Mar 3, 2006 12:37 AM

Well it's been pared since midnight hit, so it's not as big an eyesore as it was before.

I don't think people appear on the member list until they activate their account by email.

Why isn't this function disabled while the "Today's birthday" function is gone.

Bigblah Mar 5, 2006 10:06 AM

Uh, "Today's birthdays" isn't gone, it just doesn't show if no member is currently having a birthday.

Seriously, do you check the bottom of the forum index that often?

Scarletdeath Mar 5, 2006 11:06 AM

Ahahah, when I go to the index after there are no new posts, I tend to scroll all the way down. Bad habit..

Hmm, it's lower now and the same day, so maybe it doesn't reset every day, but does a database query checking activity in the last 24 hours. Could potentially be a lot of unnecessary strain on the server, but I'm not sure of all that it's taking.
