Installing hardware help "hp psc 500"

I need to set this up because I need to use the scanner to make some copy's of some stuff before I have to mail it in for a rebate I am getting from a PSU I bought. The thing is when I have everything plugged it and turned on I can get windows to properly detect it. I had this prob the last time i installed it, but I can't remember what I did. This printer is not a usb ver (it has a older printer cable at least thats what I think it is called, but don't quote me on that). So can somebody please help me.

Did you check the HP website?

You're supposed to insert the CD, install stuff, and then plug in the printer.

It comes with it, unless you bought it second hand.

In which case you download the drivers from HP's website, which striped phantom kindly provided.

Well I check there site before and they said the driver was already installed onto xp already.

Then somebody suggested the port was not configured right in the bios (have not checked that yet, but I think thats whats wrong.)

Uninstall the driver/s, reinstall, then plug in stuff.
