Have you listened all your albums?

Just a general question guys, so have you listened all the albums you have downloaded/purchased in your collection? Most of the time, I spent 1-2 hours to listen the whole albums I have downloaded before I burn them into DVD.

Most of the time I only listen albums just once and never bothers to touch them anymore, maybe I will consider to listen them again later, if I'm out of collection. I havent listened some of my collection because either the tracks are too much (for instance, Dubble's Mother 3 Rip) or the albums dont appeal my taste.

Oh god no. I must have about 50+ albums in total, but I have still to listen to about 20 of them. The ones that I have listened to though, I have gone though at least twice.

For albums I've bought, I've listened to them all the way through since I've only ever had like 2/3 and so of course, I listen to what I buy or else I wouldn't buy it.

As for downloading, I listen to every track if I get the whole album, but most of the time I just get single tracks I like without bothering for the whole album whenever possible. Anything I don't like instantly gets deleted or a second listen weeks/months later, and then subsequently gets deleted.

Pretty much the same for me. I'm pretty familiar with every album I physically own, but the ones I have on my HD are 50/50, depending on how interested I am in a particular game/artist. Of course, I now only buy albums I've pre-screened in advance (unless that wasn't a previous option), so of course I've heard everything I physically own.

Almost all my purchases were blinded ones though :P But I've listened to every single album I've ever bought. But I usually don't bother too much for the downloads. I should start to get a listen at least once. but I'm not physically able to do so with them all anytime soon ._. Just for example, I've never played NiGHTS as I don't have (or even have a friend that owns one) a Sega Saturn, and I recently check an old backup disc and got suddenly interested to listen to the soundtrack. 10 years after the game came out.

Since I (used to) have a large VGM collection, I definitely can't listen to it all. At most I've probably taken a gander at 20% of my VGM collection. Now that I'm trying to recover it all after an HD crash last month, it'll take me a few months at the least if I wanted to listen through everything.

As far as purchases goes, I have several VGM soundtracks but I've hardly listened to any of them. The one I've heard the most is the Paper Mario Game Music Soundtrack (the American release) - got that a few years back and I've had it since.

I'm getting close. The past year I toned down the collecting and embarked on listening to what I do have.

lightgem May 14, 2007 11:46 PM

I always download first. I don't listen to everything I download though, they are all located in a folder. I will get to everyone of them eventually, but not all at once.

After listening to albums I download once, I will make a decision: move albums that I see have potential of being good albums to a saperate internal HDD which has become a place to carry all my personal favorites, or move albums that I know I won't be listening again to a "burned" folder and ready to go once they add up to 4.30GB.

Then, I will listen to the potential albums many more times. Most of them end up stay in that HDD permanantly, and I end up buy most of the albums that stay. So yeah, buying-wise, I do listen to everyone of them.

ctu May 14, 2007 11:56 PM

nope I have not even come close. I have a lot of stuff I only got because I loved a few songs from the ost. There are also some I just never got around to (aka sukoden V :D)

Dose it count if I put a song on for a few secs and switch to the next one for most of the albums?

bishop743 May 15, 2007 08:49 AM

When it comes to the albums I've purchased, yes I have listened to them all the way through at least once. If I'm on the fence of whether or not it's an average album or one I could grow to really enjoy, I usually give it a second run through.

I have nearly a TB of mp3s, so obviously I haven't listened to all of those. If it's an album I'm interested in, I'll listen to a couple songs. If I like it, I'll end up buying it and then listening to all of it.

guyinrubbersuit May 16, 2007 12:43 AM

For the albums I've purchased and non vg music in general I've listened to all the albums at least once, or at the very least listened to a majority of the songs on it.

For the vg tracks, including official and fanmade, there's a lot I haven't heard. I usually become picky and gravitate towards my absolute favorites. Sometimes I just leave it on random and forget about it.

niki May 16, 2007 07:42 AM

Yeah, surprisingly, the reason I download music is to listen to it ...

I do keep things I don't particularly love for the sake of completion everynow and then, though.

MrMonkeyMan May 16, 2007 09:28 AM

Well, I had pretty much listend to every song on my computer until #gamemp3s started releasing those archives. Now I'm so fucking swamped with music I don't think I'll ever listen to it all.

I have found some pretty awesome albums from those archives though, and I've only listend up to about halfway through the letter b.

So I went and threw everything I haven't listened to in Winamp. Only 29,321 songs and 1240+ hours to go. Going by my stats on last.fm it should only take me two years to listen to it all if I don't listen to anything else, or get anything new.

Ceft May 16, 2007 09:44 AM

Well, I've listened to a lot of my non-#gamemp3s stuff, which is at least 60% of my music. I'm not totally familiar with every track, but I could at least recognize some details of it.

Mr. X May 16, 2007 09:59 AM

I've listened to all that I've bought several times. I've listened to 70% of the music I've downloaded but a few significant franchises still haven't grabbed my attention, e.g. Lunar, Street Fighter Zero, and a fair amount of Sonic and Rockman. I'm currently going through my Phantasy Star, Shin Megami Tensei, Panzer Dragoon, and Dino Crisis phases, but I didn't listen to the music from this series till recently. It's all a gradual process and I can only digest so much at a time.

Like Goldfish, I download everything I buy beforehand to see whether the purchase will be worth it. I'm too short on money and too often disappointed for it to be any other way.

Freelance May 16, 2007 10:49 AM

I don't tend to listen to the majority of the albums I've DLed more than once, although I do burn them. I choose the best music from them and burn them to a separate DVD as a giant MP3 playlist for listening. Unfortunately, the pretty much over 90% of the albums are ignored. The ones I tend to burn to add to my playlist are from a few games/anime.

Dhsu May 17, 2007 01:06 AM

Back when I had an itty-bitty 20 gigger and didn't own a CD-burner, I could only keep the best of the best, and was constantly going through my music to see what I could delete. Now that it's much less of a concern, I tend to be less stingy with my downloading habits and am loathe to have incomplete albums. I'm still in the process of listening to them all though...I'll get there, someday.
