X-13D Doritos

The new flavor of chip from Doritos. I saw this last night at Wal-Mart. The bag is black and generic looking the X-13D in huge letters on the bag. Near the bottom is something that reads: Taster's note: All-American Classic. So I had to get these. Hell with something marketed as "experimental" who knows what kind of flavor it was!

Upon getting home and opening the bag, it smelled familiar. I took a chip out and ate it and was like "wow, this tastes so familiar". After about 5 or so, I figured out what it was. It's a CHEESEBURGER flavored Dorito!

These taste pretty good, but it's nothing that I would constantly eat like I would Nacho or Cool Ranch.

For a product that smells reminiscient of sweaty feet, I'm not sure if concealing the flavor is a wise marketing strategy.

Reminds me of when Starburst did their mystery flavor promotion. Seeing as the only two flavors of Starburst with distinctive tastes are Lemon and Cherry, the flavor of the mystery chew was a bit of a moot point. As long as you guessed "fruit" you were close enough and the specifics didn't matter. It could've been just another Strawberry square with the coloring removed and most people wouldn't know the difference.

I saw these at the store last night, but I wasn't willing to buy a giant ass bag of chip just to try out a mystery flavor. I'll wait until I see it in the smaller-sized bags before I try them out.

I have a few trailerload of these chips in my warehouse right now... two different flavors from what I could tell on the paperwork that has been crossing my desk over the past week. Or else they are in two different sizes... have not been able to actually see what we have out there in a while. Might have to grab a bag and give them a taste...

Man, I'd love to try these. I'll probably never see this considering they don't even sell Ranch or Salsa flavored Doritos in Guatemala. :(

I've actually had some of these X-13 Doritos, and I can't say I was impressed. Then again, I sampled these in the same sitting as some Ranch Doritos, and nothing can compare to those crystal meth imbued chipity-chomps. Perhaps if the cheeseburger chips had a better burger taste to them; they were just too cheesy to be truly reminiscent of a cheeseburger.

I don't understand why everytime they release a new flavor, they only sell them in huge bags. If they sold them in smaller bags I would try every new flavor that comes out, but when it comes to a $4 taste test, I decline.

I would really like to give these a shot, but honestly I don't see this flavor lasting for very long. Cheeseburger? Did they run out of ideas or what?

Well, they had those weird pizza ones a while back. Like, they'd be tasty for the first few chips and then they're just start to taste really funky. :(

ComradeTande May 18, 2007 01:23 PM

my standpartner in band brought them in one day and forced me to eat them without giving me details of what they tasted like. as soon as i ate one i spat it out D= tasted like crap...like freaking hamburgers (and i'm a veggy ._. i hate her so much for making me eat that shit).

i'm never ever going to like doritos...

unless they bring back 3D doritos. damnit.

Divest May 19, 2007 12:00 AM

So you'll eat 3D doritos but not regular doritos even though they're the same flavor?

Fleshy Fun-Bridge May 19, 2007 12:25 AM

They don't just taste like a cheeseburger, but a cheeseburger with the works: lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles (the dill is strong), ketchup, and mustard.

All in all, I could only eat a few of them before relizing I'd rather just eat a cheeseburger.

Monkey King May 19, 2007 04:29 AM

Chips are something that go with cheeseburgers, not something that's meant to replace them. Maybe Dorito is going for vertical integration of the lunch table.

That totally killed my interest in these new ones... I'm a simple man who likes a simple, plain, bitch-I-done-told-you-twice-already-I-don't-want-ketchup, cheeseburger. In fact, I could go for one now. Damn breakfast hours >_<.

Jenn Frank, from 1-Up, had a fairly funny take on them.

You kinda left us hanging there buddy.

Actually, it tastes pretty close to an exact copy of MCD's cheesburger. I grabbed a bag, ate one, went to MCD, ate a cheeseburger, and coun'dn't really find any differentiating flavors between the two. Only the texture was different. IDK, but maybe MCD on the west coast taste different than those on the east, cause I've heard of people saying that they taste nothing like a MCD cheeseburger (online findings, of course).

These have a good taste. Finally a flavor of Doritos that doesn't taste the same as every other flavor.
