Automated Private Messages: New Members and Moved Threads

I installed a few new hacks for automated private messages. The first one is a welcome message to new members that join the forum. It provides a direct link to the Welcome, Welcome forum and tells them who to contact if they have any problems.

The second hack is for a new automated PM for when a thread is moved. We all know how ugly those redirects are, right? When we don't use them it's sometimes hard to find where your thread went. Now when a moderator moves your thread they will automatically PM you a link to your thread and the new forum it's in so there isn't any confusion.

I guess this isn't exactly new since we had these automated PMs back before we upgraded to vb3, but it's still nice to have them back!

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 17, 2006 10:26 AM

I really LIKE this addition. I am glad to see someone is automating a PM to the new members to direct them to the appropraite forum. Thats really a nice feature, even if they ignore it.

And I have also been completely confused on a thread redirect too. Does it only go out to the thread maker??

This addition is fucking retarded. If I want to keep track on my moved or redirected thread, I can do that in my profile. What's next, a Pineapple Juice Machine or what?

What what

I mean, cool, a hello welcome msg~
They'd be happier if we sent them money transfers or free iPods, you know...

The automated PMs are a good idea, especially for the missing threads and such. That's a good move. Also, on a totally unrelated note, Sassafrass has a humorous avatar. :)

But doesn't that only work if you're subscribed to a thread?

Musharraf Mar 17, 2006 12:14 PM

Okay who the hell subscribes to his own threads???!!!

russ Mar 17, 2006 12:18 PM

The same people who create threads in the wrong forums.

No, you can easily use the ''Find all threads started by...'' link in your profile.
