Hot Fuzz

Did anyone else see Hot Fuzz last night? Hysterical and hilarious from beginning to end, IMO. You have to love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's peanut butter-and-jelly relationship, the fact that their most gory scenes (along with Shaun of the Dead) and horror scenes are more effective than the films they're paying tribute to. Like SOTD it managed to be just as entertaining a buddy cop flick as the mainstream ones.

Timothy Dalton was so great in it and his opening line gets the ball rolling for the jokes. The big reveal towards the end of the movie was also hilarious.

It had a few funny bits and the end was pretty good. Overall I found shaun of the dead a lot more entertaining. Hot Fuzz, not so much

I caught it on Thursday for an advance screening. It was great. One of the funniest movies I can recall seeing in theaters. I even liked it better than Shaun of the Dead, which I absolutely loved. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work really well together. Check it out if it's playing anywhere near you. Easily worth the nine or so bucks it cost.

I loved the movie =D Still, Shaun of the Dead is probably better -- not that Hot Fuzz is bad or anything. Lots of references to other movies.

Plus, it seems there's another Simon Pegg movie coming out in Fall. However, this isn't by the same crew ("Run Fat Boy, Run"). David Schwimmer is the director though o__O Evidently, they met on the Band of Brothers set. I personally had no clue Simon Pegg was on Band of Brothers. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it, despite different writers.

Brilliantly scripted, and hilarious, just like Shaun. Go see it now!

Also, Timothy Dalton looked suspiciously like that butler guy from Hudson Hawk IMHO.

Shaun of the Dead is slightly better, but Hot Fuzz is still a great movie. The film tries to stay realistic up to a certain point, then it just abandons that and goes for all out mayhem (which is actually the better part).

Saw this when it came out in February here and I highly recommend it.

I'm more of a fan of mindless Mike Bay-esque action movies than Romero's Zombifests so I found this movie superior to Shaun. They have a go at everything from Point Break to The Wicker Man. Frost and Pegg have come a long way since their show Spaced some years back and I only hope they continue.

In the trailer the Voice over man says "..from the people who watched every action movie ever made" ... and it's obvious they have - see how many movie references you can count :)

I saw this a while ago when it came out in England and I really enjoyed it. A common criticism aimed at it has been that it is about 30 minutes too long.

Although I agree that it is quite a long film for a comedy, I beleive that without the extra half hour, we would miss a sizeable portion of the laughter. Therfore, I am glad it is as long as it is.

Saw it tonight and Id say its just as good, if not better than SOTD. If anything, it was more accessible to US audiences than SOTD was. Definitely worth watching at the theaters.

I actually liked Hot Fuzz better than Shaun of the Dead

The bit where he kicks the granny in the head... Priceless :D
Oh and Timothy Dalton was hilarious ;)
I loved all the references to other action movies as well

"Haven't you ever heard of a short cut?"

*hops fence, hops fence, hops fence, front flips over highest last fence*

*Other guy crashes through first one*

That referance was awesome....though I hate to sound like a complete fool, i've yet to see the movie, only comercials...but I do plan on watching it real soon.

Shaun was ok so I'll probably watch this too but I might wait till after it comes on satellite.
I saw the trailer and the funniest part was when a dude eats a twinkie too fast and gets a head rush. LOL

I'll probably wait for this on video, but I definitely want to see it. SotD was classic!

I take it then this has only just been screened in the US? Loved this movie; I was glad that my expectations weren't dashed. The whole concept of the movie is hilarious, and add that to the duo's performance, not to mention the guest appearances. The writing for this was fantastic. From what I hear they're planning another movie; a trilogy if you will...

I loved the movie. Many references of movies and even Spaced. My only complain is that Edgar used the "swap" effect toooo much and sometimes I kinda felt lost in the action scenes. Definitely a must buy when the DVD comes out.

This definitely has already been said but, if you like this type of humor, try to watch Spaced. That show is amazing.

By the way, how many "Spaced" people where you guys able to spot? I saw the movie once, and only found "Bilbo" (kinda obvious one). Where the hell is Julia Deakin???

PS: Peter Jackson as Santa? Niiiicee...

I'd sat through the entire BoB miniseries three times and it was the third time around did I notice Simon Pegg's two-second speaking role in the first or second episodes.

I prefer Hot Fuzz over SOTD by quite a bit. To me, it was two different types of humour. Hot Fuzz is more laugh out loud, while SOTD is more subtle and, in a way, English.
