Out of the loop to long :( Pc game recommendations needed

It has been to long since I gotten a new pc game and I have no idea whats worth getting and whats not worth my time.

The pc is my choice for fps and rts games (so I would love to get some newer games of those types. I am also looking for ideas on any star wars game (like Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy witch is a game I pretty much played to death) I would like to know if there are any ace combat link game for the pc?

Also I was once heard of a star wars pc game I would like to get I just don't know the name.

I believe it was a RTS from what a remember and it was made after ST voyager ended (it had TP torpedoes and ablasive(sp) armor that was indrodused at the end of that series) I think there was also a mode to create any battle yo could have thought of in a free play mode.

I think there's another thread like this somewhere...

Anyhoo, I'd recommend some point-and-click adventures. They are getting somewhat of a revival here in NZ (of all places!) and if you can pick up Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango etc. etc. by all means do so. If you want something more lasting, you still can't beat DotA...

ctu Apr 16, 2007 07:53 AM

DotA? I'm sorry, but I have no idea what that is.

Pretty much the only things i can play on PC anymore are RTS games and turn-based RTS. I recomend Comand and Conquer: The First Decade. It's the equivalent of 10 games for something like 50 bucks. (one of them is a first person shooter, but whatever). The games are great fun, with epic battle scenes, and tense nail biting times when you just have to wait and see if you can properly prepare for an attack while the enemy does the same (some of these games take a bit of patience, very much so on the first one. Still very fun)

I like to get my pc games free after rebate online If you get where I am coming from.

I never played a C and C game before, but I guess it might be fun.

Starwars Apr 17, 2007 04:46 PM

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl is a recent FPS, and while it is far from perfect, it has an absolutely amazing atmosphere. The gunplay is fun once you get into the game (beginning can be rough). It also has fairly open areas for a FPS, and some RPG elements as well.

It's the first PC game in years (since Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines) where I've actually felt good about supporting the developers. Though you might want to try it first since it's rather special.

The game you're thinking of is probably Empire at War. It's the only Star Wars RTS that I know of, and from what I remember it has a skirmish creation system.

If you enjoy stuff like that, you might also look into X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, as it had custom-made space battles you could play out.

For more recent games on PC, I'd recommend Rainbow Six: Vegas if you haven't played it on 360, as well as FEAR. I don't know how long exactly you've been out of the loop, but given your interest in Star Wars, you can't really go wrong with the Knights of the Old Republic games.

For RTS, Command & Conquer 3 is a good bet, and you might also look into Supreme Commander.

You might also want to mention what your computer can handle, because most recent PC games are made with graphics in mind.

I was talking about a star Trek game not star wars

Off the top of my head: There's Star Trek: Armada (or a sequel Armada II) the second one is very hard to find now due to "issues" between Viacom and Activision. I think it involves time travel so I would wager that the Transphasic Torpedoes you mention appear.

On the other hand a skirmish mode (set up your own battles) was a prominent feature of the Starfleet Command series of games. I think the one you're after is Starfleet Command III as the first Starfleet Commands were set in the time of Kirk.

Armada II came out in '01 and SC:III came out in '02 which would have been at the end of Voyager's life. If I had a choice I'd take Starfleet Command III.

I did not see any mention about TF torpedoes on gamefaqs :(

Just throwing this out, but there's also the god forsaken Force Commander, which is so bloody terrible that anyone who's had the misfortune to play it ends up crying themselves to sleep for the rest of their life.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Anyone know of a link to a no-cd crack of Armada II? I re-installed it recently, but it's not playing on my comp now, argh.

It's at Target for $19.99, I'll need to pick it up soon... :D

I found one about a year ago for both the first and second game. Will need to find it again however, don't think I saved it...

BTW, to those that have played, how's the Starfleet Command series. Thinking about buying the newest game soon.

Paco May 20, 2007 01:35 PM

Do yourself a favor... Play Grim Fandango. That is all.

Gechmir May 20, 2007 04:40 PM

And play Beyond Good & Evil after that.

I need to track that down again :( 'Sup request thread...

no not yet I did not know anything about the game so I never installed it.

Gechmir May 20, 2007 07:41 PM

Try it. It was a sleeper hit that went largely unnoticed. Anyone who plays it absolutely LOVES the game. Awesome music, story, voice acting, etc. And the graphics aren't really all that dated.

ctu May 20, 2007 07:56 PM

I'll try to play that soon (as soon as I burn some stuff off my hard drive)

BlueMikey May 20, 2007 08:11 PM

Yeah, Beyond Good and Evil was absolutely stellar, though I played it for the PS2.

I'm looking for some recommendations too. I'm assuming a big one is Half Life 2?

I haven't really had an up-to-date computer in a while, and I've been mostly a consoler. I played PC games a lot back in the age of Monkey Island and DOOM...of more recent/still popular stuff, I have WoW, BF1942, UT and UT2K4, and StarCraft. I'm figuring I'll pick up WarCraft 1/2/3 at some point, but what else?

Guru May 20, 2007 08:15 PM

Theme Park by Bullfrog is still one of the best PC games I've ever played :)

I also like the Rollercoaster Tycoon games. Very well made and a lot of fun to play.

BlueMikey May 20, 2007 08:44 PM

Haha, I had Theme Park back in the day. Absolutely loved it.

I am huge into SimCity; I should have mentioned I have SimCity 4 too. What other good simulation games are there?

Guru May 20, 2007 09:06 PM

The Civilization games are good, but can be a little heavy. I've always preferred the "fun" ones like theme parks and zoos and stuff, where it isn't all so political. Pretty much all the "Tycoon" games. And SimTower is a great classic too.

Demosthenes May 21, 2007 01:19 AM

For future reference I'll recommend two games.

First being Crysis, though you'll need a pretty powerful Pc to run it smoothly. Look forward to dropping $1000+ to play the game in max settiings.

Second, the game I am looking forward to even more than Crysis is Bioshock. This game's psychologic ambiance is amazing. From gameplay, to effects, to in game choices. This game is going to be above and beyond amazing.

Ps. System Shock was sort of a prequel to Bioshock so check that out as well.
