Difference between horizontal and perpendicular?
I'm a little confused about the difference of the two words. In Wiki perpendicular sounds like horizontal to me so I hope someone here can clear me up a little.
thanks! |
Horizontal:

--------------------------- << this is a horizontal line
--------------------------- << this horizontal line is parallel to the first line. | | | | | | |______________________ << these lines are perpendicular to each other (90 degrees) | | | | | | |
Uh, Zerg, you mean parallel.
|
Actually, those two lines are parallel to each other. Perpendicular means you have a 90 degree angle between the two lines.
Ergo: _|_ |
I posted too fast. Changed :p

Elrasiel:
x <---these lines are perpendicular (for the most part) + <---these lines are also perpendicular x <---has no horizontal lines + <---has a horizontal line Perpendicular is a term used to define the relationship between two lines, while horizontal is a term used to define the relationship of a line (or plane) to the entire world. |
To remember 'horizontal' I always think about the 'horizon'... its side to side as opposed to up and down.
As for perpendicular, its just two lines interesecting each other... I believe it has to be at a 90 degree angle. Perpendicular, you need two lines. Horizontal is just one. |
i believe the earlier pictures cleared it all up.

Thanks y'all!

I think it's the latter that holds true, Vemp.
