Unwanted album art embedded into mp3 file

I recently opened an mp3 file and it had a really random album art attached to it (American Pop or something; I've never even had an album like that on my computer o.0). I examined the mp3 file in Tag&Rename but it does not detect anything...but the album art is still there.

I tried unchecking "Hide protected operating system files", and sure enough the jpg files were in the same folder. I deleted them but the art remains, despite not existing in my folder. Is there any way to get rid of this annoying album art?

Just right-click on one of the files and select Edit Tag. There should be a tag related to album art on the right side. Remove it and do the same thing for the rest of the files in the folder.

Thanks for the reply Rosie; if I'm completely comprehending what you're saying, then I already tried that.

So yeah, I guess I should have been more specific regarding my examination. =P

What do you mean by "opened"? It's very strange that the embedded cover doesn't show up in Tag&Rename. And even more strange if the cover art has no relation to the album in question.

Basically I mean that I played it in Windows Media Player (11)...and then that art turns up out of nowhere. Strange, huh?

I think thats just a characteristic of WMP10 and 11. If the MP3 is an identifiable song, it will give you the rest of the album information automagically from the interwebs. =0

To only way to stop this is taking away its internet privileges.

Windows Media Player used to do that for me as well, actually, and because the program automatically searches the web for missing song info, it can mess up the tags and/or make the SFV check for that song go bad. That's one reason why I switched to Winamp; the other reason being that WMP uses up a lot of RAM whereas Winamp uses a lot less.

I've had URGE disabled this whole time, so I think that's what you mean by depriving WMP of its internet privileges. There isn't really a blatant options menu, so there's something I could be missing.
