If you want to know what the best technology is, I'd have to throw a nomination in for three-chip DLP rear-projection TV. Its just a absurdly elegant solution. And its absurdly expensive.

1. How the hell should we know? Ask Samsung.
2. Slim fit is just a plain ol' CRT with wider angles, and specially designed screen crystals to make up for it (normal projection TVs get dark around the edges if they aren't deep enough, especially if you're not sitting in exactly the right place). They're not thin, they're just thinner, but that can still make a difference. No wall hanging for these beasts. For the rest of q2, Projection vs CRT, LCD vs Plasma (2005). (Often unmentioned is how much banding plasma has, causing twinkling and splotching and bad colors in exchange for fast times and true blacks.) Plasma is a dying technology. LCD approaches, matches, or even beats it on every measure, especially the pricier ones. More technologies slated to appear in the next few years will give LCD competition and finally remove Plasma entirely. 3. Yes, of course, all HDTVs have a Wide/Narrow toggle, and some can even do it automatically like DVD players. In fact even most SDTVs have it. 4. Depends on what you're looking for, of course, and you might want to sit down with it first. |
For CRTs, I recommend going with a Sony. They have the finest CRT on the market, but you're going to need help moving it.
I would stay away from slimfit CRTs, or Samsung CRTs in general, because their weak power supplies will result in geometry distortion. The problem with widescreen CRTs is that the electron gun will have trouble reaching the width of the panel, and Samsungs suffer the worst. |

2. http://www.projectorcentral.com/lcd_dlp_test.htm amongst a throng of other information sources on this. This isn't exactly secret information. Also see the side columns for how it stacks up to plasma, tube-CRT, and as well as LCoS. 3. Quote:
4. Well, check it up on reviews like CNET and the AVSforum. It's really dependant on your budget and what you consider "good" picture. And of course there are better models for an HDTV. I'm quite keen on getting the LCD LNS 4095D - boasting 1080p. |
There are hundreds of websites with product reviews for televisions, asking us lot is far from being your best idea.
