Some question on ripper

Well just want to have some general question to game rippers here, I would like to ask when will you usually took the time when ripping a game music. Do you record the music in your first time playing the game, or do you finish the game first and playing through the game again?

I once thought to record music during the 1st play but it's make me frustating because I want to enjoy the game as well, not only the music. But after I finish the game I eventually got lazy and stop the ripping progress (lucky that if it has sound test or could be dumped via certain tool)

Recording the game in first play would produce the music faster, but at the same time, it makes the game less enjoyable, because we must stop and record the game about 3-4 minutes, and continue forward, pausing to record again, etc.

I usually beat the game first (unless there's already a sound test provided) to enjoy it as much as possible. But for my Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga rip for example, I ripped it while playing. Not that it's a long game, but once I've beaten a RPG, I don't feel like beating it again, especially when you do massive level up, you want to pass to something else quickly.

I beat the game first. This is to make sure I explore as much as possible during my first playthrough, so as to avoid missing out on any tracks. That's one reason, second being that some games have bonuses and extras during the second playthrough, which might be a source of even more music.

If there's a soundtest however, like cubed said, I would just rip it while playing the first time. True, I miss out on actual gameplay, but a ripper's gotta do what a ripper's gotta do. If I'd be playing just to play them for fun, I surely wouldn't be releasing any gamerips.

You make it sound like the ripping process in itself isn't actually any fun. =p

That's funny, I posed this same question to myself the other day. I plan on starting Chibi Robo (GC) soon, and as far as I know, there's no rip available. So, I planned on ripping it. The thing is, I'd like to enjoy the game, as it's one I've wanted to play for awhile now, and I seriously doubt I'd be willing to play through it twice. So, I would have to take the time to rip the music on my first play-through. Unfortunately, I didn't see a sound test option, so that eliminates that possibility. This also means I'd have to play using my computer monitor (since I rip via a TV tuner thing hooked up to my computer), rather than the regular TV.

I guess it depends on how much I like the music. If I start the game and find myself really digging the tunes, then I will probably end up ripping as I go. Otherwise, I may just forget the whole thing.

When I did my Musashi Samurai Legend rip, I started playing through as normal and made a couple saves every chapter or so, so I could easily get back to certain areas. If there were some parts where I knew it would take a lot of time to get back up to, I would record right then (such as at the end of the game). When I was all done, I would jump through my different saves to get all the rest of the tracks.

I did a similar thing to rip tracks from Twilight Princess for Wii. I made multiple save files; circumventing the three save limit by dumping saves to my PC via SD card.

That depends entirely on what you're ripping. It can be both entertaining or drop-dead boring. To each his own taste.
