Is this new technology? Lol, I've never experienced anything like this.

And just to let you know -- no, it's not one of those scary audio and it suddenly screams in the end.

The technique used to create this effect is called binaural recording, and it is not new. This was probably created with a dummy head that has human-shaped ears and ear canals. There is a microphone in each ear.

Normal stereo recordings have large amplitude differences between each channel. When played back over loudspeakers, the time delay between each channel reaching its own ear and the opposite ear creates the stereo image. In a binaural recording, the difference between the channels is mostly phase differences (time), and frequency, not massive amplitude differences. The short delay cause by sound rearching the opposite ear, and the effect of the ears themselves (especially the outer ear) on the sound create the binaural effect.

This particular recording is now new, and this website stole it from somewhere else.

They have been simulating surround sound with two speakers for a while now. I want to say its the same idea as Pro Logic 2? Phase shifting and whatnot... Im not sure though.

I have a bunch of nature CD's that have 3D sound, the booklet says that it was done by the Roland Sound Space System. It does not work with a headphones, you need to position the speakers a certain way. I scanned the instructions from the booklet.
