Disaster: Day of Crisis

I couldn't find a thread on this one so here is my little effort!

There's now a screenshot (in-game, wahey!), and something resembling a plot kinda. Apparently you have to go fetch a nuclear weapon while the world's ending.

Looks... Mediocre. :/ I hope something impressive comes out about it.

Graphics = is that a PS1 game, or a Sega Saturn game. It seems like developers are using the fact that the Wii is less powerful than the PS3 or Xbox 360 to get truly lazy in the graphics department. I would like to see at least GC-quality graphics for cryin' out loud...

Kinda sad, considering that it's a first party game. Although, I'm hoping Nintendo will make this a good game, since not that much has been said about it at the moment.

Crazy wifi feature = friends-code + item trading? Online multiplayer seems like a distant dream for Nintendo games unless we're talking about Smash Bros., which has yet to be confirmed too. ;_;

I was thinking more of a time attack-kinda thang (and possible content updates).

It's actually being developed by Monolith Soft (Xenosaga people) and published by Nintendo.

Forsety Feb 25, 2007 03:41 PM

It's more like early PS2, but that's still not saying it's impressive. It will probably go through changes anyway, and ultimately look better in motion. What game has there ever been, that's looked identical to the first screenshot shown?

garthvadr3 Feb 25, 2007 04:17 PM

yea, I cannot agree that that game looks like PS1 or Sega Saturn. Have you ever even played those systems because if you had, you would have realized that neither have texture filtering, or anti-aliasing. The game would be pixilated if it looked like it were on those systems.

Besides, the game does not really look that bad at all and it is only one pic which is hard to judge on considering it is in a lava filled small hallway. Monolith has always been pretty good in the graphics department so I have faith that this game will look fine. I saw some early videos with volcanic rocks and fire raining down on a city, it actualy looked pretty cool.

speculative Feb 25, 2007 07:21 PM

Yes, I am judging by that one screenshot. Because that's what I've got for now. It's possible that the graphics will be better once released, but it's also possible that they will not be better upon release or will even be worse, which is why I only go off the facts I have at any given time for any given game that has not yet been released.

Roommate had a Saturn so I'm well-acquainted with Saturn & PS1 graphics. (I'm thinking about picking up a used one sometime on Ebay for the Panzer Dragoon games, in fact.) To exaggerate, I compared the graphics to systems 2 generations back, because really the graphics looks last-gen to me. Not quite up to GC quality, actually. In fact, not up to Silent Hill 3 graphics imho. Just my 2 cents - YMMV.

Thanks for clearing that up, I've always thought that this and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. were going to be two first party games using brand new IPs.

I'm really looking forward to this actually, being the obsessed fan of SOS The Final Escape on PS2 and all. Monolith Soft's a bit dodgy though, but I guess it's fitting that they're behind a game that has 'Disaster' in the title since that best describes their previous games am I right (hahahalololol, I kid, no :cmb: ). I remember there was a really short video of this (an actual gameplay one) not that long ago, the dude was shooting up car windows and stuff. That's a pretty important thing to do!

This doesn't sound too interesting to me. I'm probably going to base my opinion purely on reviews and scores; it'll take a lot to make me buy this game. Maybe it's just that screenshot? Maybe a more exciting one will "captivate" me.

And Infernal, I honestly saw that dance pad when I first looked at the picture, too. The arrow just screams it. :)

garthvadr3 Feb 26, 2007 02:50 PM

well if you want more factual evidence go on, watch the videos that have in-game footage that include waaay more material to judge on than this single screen shot. I think I got them from IGN from the various conventions that had happened over the last fall and winter. I can't remember exactly which shows the videos were from but I think one was from the last big Nintendo show.

edit:
Its the nintendo world year 2007 games video

edit again:

Wow Infernal, someone else besides me actually liked SOS?

Monolith doesn't have THAT bad of a track record (Baten Kaitos 1 and 2, Xenosaga, Tales of Symphonia)

Deguello Mar 2, 2007 12:12 PM

That screenshot is old. Like August 2006 Nintendo Power old.

Monlith had nothing to do with Tales of Symphonia.

garthvadr3 Mar 2, 2007 10:36 PM

oops my mistake. But they did still do Both baten Kaitos games which are great games, in fact I am playing Origins right now and it is awsome. And they also did the Xenosaga series which is great also.

speculative Mar 2, 2007 10:59 PM

Actually, Monolith has a better track record than Monolith, by far... ;)

garthvadr3 Mar 2, 2007 11:29 PM

well if you like FPS games. The only FPS I really like is the battlefield series sooo.......I personally would take the original Xenogears over all of Monolith Productions games combined.

It looks like the controls have the potential to be really annoying, but it also looks nearly as funny as Ghost Squad with the terrible script. I'm sold if a video comes showing the main character high-fiving the president at the end.
