KUNG POW: Enter The Fist!

I can't remember another movie, except for UHF (1989), where I laughed so hard, every single time I've watched it.

But sadly, it's not for anyone; there is absolutely NO intellectual humor, NO sucker-punches at anything, NOTHING, except some parodies and A LOT of absurd humor, which I'm addicted to.

Anyone else agree? :edgartpg:

I now intend to revisit this movie while intoxicated. If I recall Kung Pow correctly, it will be better this time around.

Zip Mar 15, 2006 04:35 AM

Is this the movie with the Cow?
That was sadly the only funny thing in it :(.

Jan Mar 15, 2006 05:44 AM

If you like that movie then perhaps you should check out Kung Phooey. You'll be pleased to note that it shares much of the same humour styles and is just as unfunny. :(

Shiny McShine Mar 15, 2006 05:50 AM

Umm...this movie sucked. It looks like everyone has the same opinion as I did when I watched the movie. The only reason I'd watch this movie again is if it's on tonight while I am totally intoxicated for my birthday. Only.

Faust 72 Mar 15, 2006 07:51 AM

Love the movie no matter how ridicilous and absurd the qoutes are.

My favorite qoutes gotta be,

"You go that way, I'll go home."
"That's a lot of nuts."
"Tiger, tiger, tiger, tiger. Bird, birdie, birdie. I'm a great Magician, you're clothes are red."

Megalith Mar 15, 2006 08:02 AM

I like how this is actually the worst movie ever made.

JasonTerminator Mar 15, 2006 02:51 PM

Yeah, I have a friend that adores the movie, but I can't see any redeeming factors in it.

Possibly the most unfunny comedy ever made.

I like how you post that same fucking line in any thread involving movies

Get the FUCK out

Eleo Mar 15, 2006 02:57 PM

Oh I see what you mean now

Cirno Mar 15, 2006 03:11 PM

This movie is terrible, but my friends and I were laughing the whole way through. It shouldn't be funny, but it is. Of course my friends and I share the same shitty sense of humor, so everything wins in the end.

The "OPEN YOUR MOUTH" scene near the beginning was priceless.

BucPride Mar 15, 2006 03:26 PM

"Oh Master Pain, thank you for coming to our town and beating up random people."

Some of it had its humor moments. Its devoid of anything that would make you think, its just stupid humor.

guyinrubbersuit Mar 15, 2006 05:46 PM

I've seen parts of it and didn't like what I saw. I don't really dig stupid, random humor, though it completely depends on who does it and how it's done. Monty Python is fine, but few can do that brand of humor well.

knkwzrd Mar 15, 2006 06:00 PM

I haven't actually seen this. My friends have given mixed reviews, from so stupid it's not even funny to so stupid you can't help but occasionally laugh at it. So, I don't reall plan to see it any time soon. Maybe if it's on TV, but I wouldn't pay. Offtopic, but nice sig SketchTheArtist.

I guess this movie is meant as a joke, but I find it amusing and give a good relief after watching movies like Eraserhead, Oldboy, etc...

You know, Eraserhead is supposed to be funny. The comedy is in Henry's underplayed emotions. I know most people don't watch it that way though.

Rockgamer Mar 15, 2006 07:30 PM

I've never seen this movie, and I have no plans to. It looked stupid when it first came out, and it still looks stupid now. I even saw it being played on cable (it was on FX, I believe), but I didn't even want to to waste time watching this crap (let alone money, which I can't believe people actually did).

evil_mercenary Mar 16, 2006 03:20 AM

i have it on DVD and i've found it quite funny.:p

BUT i find it funny to watch, only when i watch it with another person. otherwise it's just booooooooring.:cow:

the special features are quite funny though, with chew fat lip (chow yun fat parody) etc.

lemonmanko Mar 16, 2006 04:08 AM

Kung pow is funny as hell
i was for sure when i saw the previews for it that i would hate it but its great

any new word on the 2nd one?

chaofan Mar 16, 2006 04:27 AM

Yeh okay. Kung Pow, in terms of its jokes and gags, was not funny.

The point of the movie was to make fun of Asian cinema, as well as English dubbing for Asian films. Have you ever seen an English dubbed Jackie Chan movie (his Hong Kong films)?

Based off this concept, Kung Pow was a clever film, mocking all the conventions of an English dubbed Chinese movie: Badly timed lip-syncing (this also applies to the Asian films without English dubbing... the lip-syncing was off!), corny "Killed-my-family-so-I'll-take-revenge" story, stupid English dubbing (anime is a victim of this too) and a female lead who is supposed to be hot, but not. All this plus references to modern pop-culture and society for eg. putting on the "I Like Big Butts" song on and Mushufasa saying "This is CNN.... C N N!!!"

Not only that, technically the film was great. Putting Steve Oederdek into the original 1976 Chinese film using digital technology was awesome and it really did look like he was filmed back then. Sure, it wasn't perfect (you could sometimes see the original actor's black hair) but it was incredible.

The cow scene was just stupid though.

you know what...I found these quotes really amusing as well...despite how STUPID this movie actually was XD

yeah you have to watch this with other people...just doesn't really work by watching it with yourself. :juggler:

Monkey King Mar 16, 2006 09:04 AM

Kung Pow had a few funny moments, but that seemed largely by accident. Like most parody movies (i.e. anything with Leslie Nielson in it), they tried entirely too hard. The whole movie is riddled with forced humor that's only actually funny if you're stoned. I really don't see why they needed to insert the white guy; it would have been much better if they'd just taken a few Hong Kong movies and merely played with the dubbing and editing.

NinjaSwiftblade Mar 16, 2006 11:13 PM

Haaaaaaa...Oooooooooooooh Steve Oedekerk.

I haven't seen this movie in years, but I remember being so "WTF" about it that I was just downright, seriously amused by it.

But as someone said...it's definitely the type of movie to watch with other people.

sabbey Mar 17, 2006 02:01 AM

Haven't seen the film, but it had a decent soundtrack at least... ;)

It sure is. The first time I watched this movie I was alone, and I didn't have nearly a full laugh but watching it with other people makes it a lot funnier. Every body starts laughing of the absurds of the movie and in the end you are laughing of every single scene.
