reencoding video (subbed anime)

I have a buchof eps of detective conan I would like to burn to a dvd and play with my divx dvd player, but when I a few I allready had on a cd the subbtitles were not being displayed properly. They where too far on the bottom of the screen and they were being cut off. I need to know what I can do (softwear wise or what) to get them to display when I want to burn them and watch them on my dvd player.

This is because fansubbers do not respect the TV safe area (all TVs overscan, as much as 15%, so there is a safe area for onscreen elements that is guaranteed to be seen). You need to re-encode the anime adding black borders around it so that the actual program is smaller and falls inside the safe area. There are guides on how to do this, the one linked by Zergrinch doesn't. Try the tutorials linked on the Animesuki forums. Since they're designed to deal with this sort of question, that'd be a better place to look.
