Microwave interfering with Wireless

This isn't really a problem, just something interesting.

We have our router on a table next to a wall. On the opposite side of this wall is a microwave. Recently we've noticed that every time someone turns on the microwave, the signal we get from our router goes from 54 Mbps to 1 Mbps. At first we didn't really think the microwave was doing that, but we've tested it a few times (randomly and at different times of the day) and our signals do go down about 1-2 seconds after the microwave is turned on and goes back up about 1-2 seconds after the microwave is turned off. Has anyone had similar experiences? Can such weak microwaves really interfere with radio waves?

In short: Yes.

Microwaves operate on the same band as 802.11 (~2.4 Ghz).
