Laptops without preinstalled garbage?
I'm curious if there's any manufacturer that sells laptops without forcing you into $200 of windows/etc crapware you don't want.
|
omg my asus... so. much. crap... It's like the whole taskbar is full. I reformated as soon as i got it just to get rid of all that stuff.
|
Not to my knowledge, no. Out of all the major companies out there, Gateway seems to have the least amount of useless crap installed on it compared to others like HP, Sony, and Toshiba. Custom ordering a laptop might solve that problem, but I don't know if the difference would be negated by the added cost of a custom build in the first place.

As long as MS isn't get a +vista sale or some other ms crap I'd be happy enough.

I ordered a SAGER laptop from this place almost 6 years ago: http://powernotebooks.com. They have ridiculously amazing customer service, even to this this when I've given that laptop to my dad.
Anyway, software bundles as well as the operating system are optional with the laptops they sell. There were a couple others sites I remember visiting years ago that were like this, but I only remember this one since I actually bought from them. |
Oh wow that site looks fucking awesome. Dell and all those other companies are gay.
edit: do they take cashier checks? their payment page doesnt say |
Ohh... dunno.
But I'm sure you'll get a quick reply from calling them or e-mailing them. :p |

Just buy whatever laptop you want and then format it when you get it. That way you'll get exactly what you want.
I've heard good things about these though: http://system76.com/index.php/cPath/...7c4efbc0d45bb2 |

I've heard that DIY laptops made by ASUS aren't half bad, if you're willing to put time and money into building one yourself. You can order a barebones one
here: http://www.geared2play.com/store/pro...ptops/asus.htm but I don't know anything about it more than they're not shitty. Aardark: Actually, you have to pay more to get a Dell without Windows. Something about subdizing the computer with crapware. Cleaning XP Dells wasp pretty easy. Just stick the Dell Windows XP CD and it wiped it down to just a fresh XP install. Just make sure you build a driver CD before doing so. I don't know about Vista though. |
