I want to upgrade - what should I get?

I'm planning on upgrading to a new PC for Vista and direct x 10 etc. but right now I've no idea whatsoever on what I should get.

Can anyone reccommend a good spec I should try and put together? I assume one of those core processors? I don't have an idea on which one of those is the best, or what speed of ram is the fastest or which motherboard is the best and argh!

This is my current spec I've had since 2002 with a few upgraded parts:

P4 3ghz hyperthreading "northwood" (or something..)
1gb ram 2600 or 2800 I believe
Audigy
asus x800pro VIVO 256mb agp
1x120gb drive, 1x250gb drive
Intel GERG2 motherboard

I wouldn't upgrade yet. Vista's not worth it until SP1, DX10 video cards are still immature, and your current system seems to have quite enough power.

I agree your current system is powerful enough. Wait another year.

You'll be wasting money to upgrade from that. Wait a year or so for stuff to advance and decrease in price.

You'll be able to run that pile of shit vista fine with that although the ram might not cut it unless you use a stripped vista, and no games will *require* dx10 compatible cards for at least a year.

Try this thing...Guaranteed it's powerful enough to run Vista :tpg:

Vista runs much smoother with more RAM. If you must use Vista, then consider adding an extra gigabyte of RAM.
