Master Thesis Survey on MMORPG's
 

Hi,

I’m a university student from Belgium currently in my final year of Communication Sciences at the Catholic University of Louvain. I’ve also been an avid gamer for most of my life. When the time came to pick a subject for my Master thesis the choice was clear: “Something with games”. I then chose MMORPG’s because i find them incredibly fascinating and dangerously appealing. The point of my thesis is to find out exactly why people play these kind of games.

Below you will find a link to a short survey, which will only take about 5 minutes to complete. You would really help me out if you would take a moment and fill it out. I would like to stress that anonimity is guaranteed and that the data will be treated objectively. No mainstream media dramatisation here, this is serious research which I’ll have to defend to a comission of professors. Anyway, I hope to receive your answers soon! Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the late reply but as you can imagine im pretty busy writing my thesis and stuff. Thanks for the fillouts guys. I currently have 290 responses, a number I am looking to at least double. I finished the survey, but I found that most of the questions didn't really apply to me in the same sense they might other players. I dunno if you want to make this distinction, but I only play MMOs with my real life friends, so I never care too much about making friends in game. I like the social aspect, but only as far as my friends are concerned. Kind of like a squad, so everybody has a job to do. Along the same lines, I'll talk to my friends over vent, but I won't usually talk to anyone else in game. It's kind of an insular experience.

Anyways, hope that helps in some way.

Well, to be honest those questions good. They "should" apply to most mmo'ers out there.

I fell sleep and decided to fill the rest is during my hangover. Is that ok? It's a bit like my average MMO-day.
