Valentine's Day
So, you guys have a "Valentine" for today? Do most countries celebrate this day? Any Valentines Day memories?
When I was about six I gave my first girlfriend a pretty sweet card I drew and all. She liked it as much as the time I gave her the race cars from the top of my birthday cake. Eleven years ago I had amassive crush on a ColombianHungarian girl and basically just threw a box of chocolate at her feet. Funny, I had better sense when I was six. |
Yeah. Valentine's is today and I will spend it alone for the third year in a row.
Oh well, there is nothing i can do about it right now....:( |
lolies I knew I put it in TQP for a reason.
Are you looking for a girly or just hoping one finds you? |
I'm not into relationships, and thusly am not into valentine's day. No sense in getting angsty about it, though. Close your eyes, eat some candy, and it'll all be over soon.
|
Generally speaking I only see my girlfriend on a weekend, so our "Valentine's day" will be adjusted accordingly. This is the first time I've actually been with someone on Valentine's day. It's the first time any of my various relationships have lasted long enough.
This one sure looks like it might go the distance though. |
Well my boyfriend is in Russia at the moment so I can't say I'm too crazy about valentines this year. Anyway, romance is dead. Persuading your partner to fuck you, however... That's all valentines has become. Amongst other things. My last boyfriend was actually considerate enough to take me out for a very expensive meal and not expect sex for it. That was a long time ago though.

I am looking, and hoping one finds me all at the same time.... Not much luck these past couple years though...:( Oh well, I can buy the chocolates for myself:D |

I'm not a Valentine's Day fanatic, but I enjoy the day, whether I'm with someone or not. I just gave these bags of candy to a bunch of my friends, and they appreciate it. It's definitely gone over the top in the past few years with all those crazy singing toys and huge cards and such.
I also think, as silly as this sounds, that for couples who are still in the beginning stages, its an opportunity for them to go all out and show what they're feeling, without worrying that their partner is going to freak out. |

I always consider Valentine's just a normal day for me. I mean, people buying flowers, chocolates, presents and bringing surprises - a lot of people does this beyond February so the holiday in entirety baffles me.
But oftentimes I use this holiday to buy something nice for myself - those things that I don't normally do on a weekly to monthly basis like buying 3 large pizzas for myself. |
First Valentine's with an actual girlfriend. We're just going out to dinner and then hanging at her place. Should be nice. http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsys...emot-glomp.gif

Can't celebrate shit today, since we're currently being slammed with a Nor'Easter. Nothing says "I love you" like 2 feet of snow. :)
Three years ago, my boyfriend and I celebrated by cooking dinner and falling asleep in eachothers arms. I know it sounds lame, but it was the best valentines day I had ever had. |
I've never bothered with Valentines Day apart from last year, when I actually had a steady relationship. This year has been quiet, not many people even wished me a happy Valentines, let alone gave me a snog or sent saucy texts or letters. What a let-down.

Haha Devs, I hated that fucking card rivalry drama.
The girlfriend I had before Lenore I didn't even so much as call for Valentines. She dumped me the next month so who knows. That was back in 2000. |
I never had a not alone Valentine's. It's a sucky holiday every year for me. Kind of like someone not having a family during Christmas or Thanksgiving. Except, not that bad. I also agree about the elementary schools and Valentine's Day cards popularity contest deal. It is a horrible idea marketed by candy companies or other.
|
I've always been alone on Valentine's Day, but I'm not really bothered by it either. Dwelling on things won't do anything helpful, so it's just another day for me. It's amusing the years that I've know couples who normally fight constantly, but act all lovey for one day.

From my journal that I never update, this was posted like well-over two years ago.

NICE DOUBLE POST DUO!!!!
For me, i think the damn day if over commericalized... But of course that's coming from the guy that usually spends V-day alone because somehow I fuck up a relationship right before i get to the day. This year is different b/c I'm not single... I still think it's an overblown up day. I mean, if you really care for someone, you don't need a damn day telling you when and what to get that special someone. Each day should be it's own damn special day and it's own adventure. Another holiday mostly likely was never intended to be butcher'd as much as it has been. Does anyone even know what was originally celebrated on this day or what it stands for? b/c I sure don't... Wierd how we celebrate holidays we don't know and assume that the corporations know wtf they're talking about. Other then that.. I had a good V-day. I was in a cheerful mood and happy to be off the market. |

I don't care much for Valentine's Day, whether I'm seeing someone or not. It's just not high on my list of things to care about. But this year was especially shitty, since the last time I had a good time with my (now ex-)girlfriend, I was very drunk and we were shopping for Valentine's Day gifts. She suggested I should buy her a sex toy, so I did. Surprisingly, things went downhill from there. I don't know if the thing (one of those pink vibrating egg things that you see in Japanese porn a lot, not that I would know about that) ever arrived at her place. I'm sort of afraid to ask. |
Everyday can be Valentine's Day if you love someone. No need of candy, chocolate, flowers or any of those garbage. This is how I look at it.
In Thailand, we celebrate the day with abandon of flowers, chocolate, hearts, balloons, stuffies and so on.... What materialistic celebration. I don't see love in that. -*- |
I'd rather celebrate the massacre than the "love" part of Valentine's Day anymore. A lot of people look at this day as the only day for romance. Let me point out something to everyone:
Romantic gestures mean more when they aren't on Valentine's Day, Christmas, or the birthday. And romance does NOT necessarily mean sex is a given. |
