Slowest startup I've ever had
Got a new system:
Athlon 64 4000+ S939 (rev. E6) ASUS A8N5X mobo XFX GeForce 7600GS For SOME reason, startup lasts almost 2 minutes. I've noticed in POST that the ACPI controller is pretty much making it hang. I'm using IDE right now, and I have the BIOS set to show bootup. POST also hangs there for about 15 seconds+ detecting IDE drives. I had disabled the IDE channels through the BIOS and startup breezed through like nothing. I can't quite understand what my problem is. Can I get any help at all? Thanks people. |
I remember reading that HDD controller bugs were a fairly common problem with nForce4 boards. Not sure if that is still the case, but one would think an Asus board would be top-notch which isn't the case anymore. Anyways, have you tried flashing the BIOS with the latest version?

I just built a system like this, actually... Athlon 64 3800+ (S939), same mobo, and an eVGA GeForce 7600GS.
Beyond optical drives, are you using anything else on EIDE, or is it SATA? The system I built uses EIDE exclusively (1 optical, 1 hdd), and boots plenty fast on the stock BIOS; ordered about a month ago, so I don't think it'd have changed. Where did you order it from? Maybe you got a bad board? |
I ordered everything day before yesterday from newegg. I remember putting some arguements in the boot.ini to bypass the ACPI controller with my old K8V-X setup, but I can't remember/find it on google. ANY HELP would be appreciated. This is getting depressing.
Additional Spam: So I found the problem: It was a P.O.S. WD hard drive I had from 3 years ago. It's all good, downloaded Vista, and AWAY I GO. Thanks for any suggestions though. Closed. |
