An Archaelogical Find: Ancient Romantic Death (Aww~)

Source.

Two 5000 year-old skeletons were found in Mantau, both of them still embracing eachother. I'm not much of one for romance stories and all that jazz, but I can't help but go "aww" when I look at this. Rather interesting from an emotional and archaeological standpoint. Bear in mind all the variables that should've budged the skeletons around, to boot!

A touching find, I gotta say =) Looks like the end result of something outta Shakespeare. Only difference is that I wasn't bugged by one of the characters... >_>

Now that's the stuff of legend. I could watch a play that was written about this.

A play of some last minute poontang before doomsday hit?

Kinda gruesome, but I guess it's an aquired taste.

Man, in a way, that's actually very beautiful.

We'll call the movie "Judgement 'Tang"! It'll outsell "Tit-tanic"!

Strangled each other to death. I guarantee it.

Ryuu Feb 6, 2007 11:11 PM

That's....Awwww...

It even has Romeo & Juliet references. This is pretty interesting, I'm sure someone might write a story based on the remains.

I'm going with The Beard on this one.

Additional Spam:
Oh yeah. A thought of my own. How long do you think it is before does make a movie about it?

Baz Luhrman has done just that already.

Ballpark Frank Feb 6, 2007 11:48 PM

You fail, Beaner. I meant a movie about these skeletons. Stupid.

Paco Feb 7, 2007 02:26 AM

Oh, my bad Hitch... But regardless of that, Tim Burton already covered that too.

Couldn't something have budged them into the position they are in now?

Gechmir Feb 7, 2007 10:15 AM

Dunno who takes pleasure in scooting around skeletons. But take a look at the topside weathering and damage (a la broken skull on the rightward one). I doubt someone moved them after they died. This is simply what it appears as, to be blunt.

If you mean water or winds, that ain't possible. They wouldn't have been so neatly intertwined like this if a flood smashed them together.

The Wise Vivi Feb 7, 2007 01:45 PM

I find that pretty interesting. It would be really cool to find out the circumstances as to why they ended up that way. Hmmm... that go back in time thread could be useful now.

parKbench Feb 7, 2007 10:20 PM

If they DID die like that, it would have had to be a sudden, quick death. Wouldn't there be some signs as to how they died? I mean, I doubt they died natural deaths if they were holding each other in an embrase. They would have both died at the exact same time.

Or maybe they were shot with arrows.

Or maybe someone shot them with arrows AFTER the strangling.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 8, 2007 11:02 AM

I wanna die like that. Anyhow, do you think the two skeletons had a sexual history?

Gechmir Feb 8, 2007 11:03 AM

Yeah, I bet he was boning her, big time.

Drex Feb 8, 2007 02:05 PM

Man, this story has an epic poetic feel to it. I hope they can glean more information from further research.

Some brilliant author should write an epic novel about this.
